Like the title says, I'm checking the board though...I'm trying to imagine if I was to retire here what the Thai's would think of a black evil Regal on the roadways. The average car here has probably only maybe 100hp, they have some turbocharged ricers but I think there definetely detuned. I'd actually be afraid to have one of these cars here, I'd kill someone on a scooter sooner or later....:D

I was just watching a show on MSNBC about the illegal sex trade in Cambodia. They were interviewing one American doctor who was there to "participate" in the activities and he told them a secret "if you don't want to get caught, tell your friends and family you're going to Thailand, not Cambodia".

We're on to you.... ;)

No worries my wife is Thai, we vacation over here because she lives here.... and yes the sexual tourism over here is disgusting, but that is only if your trying to find it. I've found a very beautiful country with many very inviting people, cable news shows are like tabloids as they only will report what gets interest...shocking headlines.

Ugly Americans...:D ...No seriously though, the Katoeys (ladyboys) are sometimes absolutely undetectable (clothed)...My wife will point one out, she still gets a kick out of the face I make when I see one....

What would make you want to retire there? Warm weather and beautiful women are two good reasons I guess but it's a little uncivilized for a permanent vacation I would think. I think the novelty would wear off. What's the dollar worth there btw?

Brother, you got to get out more often! Thailand is absolutely beautiful- I spent time in Phuket and Pattaya back when I was in the service.

I have seriously kicked around the idea of retiring outside the US- the $$ goes farther, and it's a great way for friends and family to get out of the country and see a bit of the world...

Ive been to Phuket as well as Singapore and Malaysia...and must say the Countries are beautiful and the people are friendly and the FOOD IS AWESOME!!!

i agree American News Media are like tabloids when featuring other countries and culture.. just tell you what they want you to hear..

...an about the third world....you really must get out more. A lot of countries in SE Asia are full of amenities. I remember when i was in Malaysia last they had a nice mass transit system with light rail, buses, etc...... hell it was probably better than the on here in the 'Lou.

I'll be coming that way either this year or next - with the way my money is now - probably next. Whats the going rate for airfare to KL..... cant wait for some roti chani:D

Ai yo! No nasi lemak? heh. Actually I dont care that much for it.... roti chanai is much better.

Cheapest I ever paid out of Kansas was a few years ago: 1,050USD for round trip. I think its closer to 2K now.

DO NOT FLY OUT OF EAST COAST, better from LAX
