I have never understood the wisdom of placing an electrical connection directly in fuel. How is this not unsafe? If there is some corrosion on the spade connectors on the pump, for example, causing an intermittant connection, could this not cause a spark which could ignite the fuel? Maybe my wisdon is faulty, but it just seems like an accident waiting to happen. Thoughts? Is it just Gallagher and I who think about these things?

20+ year old cars, no fuel tank explosions to speak of. GM didn't charge extra for wisdom.

Gallagher drives a Mercedes C class.

I think the same thing at times...lol...never heard of a problem before, seems like the engineers know what they are doing...

you need more than a spark ..you need air specifically oxygen and there is none in a fuel tank

gasoline doesnt conduct electricity , neither does pure water

Exactly, you can toss a cig butt in a pail of gas & nothing happens. Think of all the cars made over the years with intank pumps. Pretty safe IMO. Better things to worry about.
