If anybody out there is stuck with having to make do with a 7.5" or 7 5/8" rear, I found a website with some great info on beefing up those. It is ThirdGen.org then you'll see it. Most of the info on that site will also apply to the G-body 7.5's. Hope this helps somebody.

Wont help to many TR owners. Those are very anemic behind the low output LT1 engines. Especially with manual transmissions. Its more cost effective to buy a used 8.5 than to spend the $ on the small one and no have the piece of mind it wont break.

Yeah I agree getting a used 8.5 is a MUCH better way to go, but to the best of my knowledge, alot of the stuff you can do to strengthen a 7.5 will work on the 8.5's too. Just food for thought..............

IMO it doesn't matter what you do to a 7.5 rear, it WILL NOT last behind a car with any decent amount of power, and the 7 5/8 is marginally better, and I say that loosely. Its the small ring gear that breaks alot of the time, and its unfortunate, but nothing can really be done about that. I've seriously seen a 305 Monte Carlo, w/ maybe 320 HP break 2 seperate 7.5's in a 2 month period. They were bone stock, but you get my point. Put the money and time into an 8.5" and be done, never have to worry.

Thanks for posting it up though. Some people will just want a little extra security in their 7.5.
