I need to do something about controlling launch boost and rpm off the line .I am leaving so inconsistant ( from 3900 to 5300 rpm.off the trans brake.I was wanting to know who is using the innovative boost controller and is it controlling your peak @ the line .I know Jack sells them for about 5 bills and have heard a stock waste gate wont work..has anyone tryed a 85 gate with a houston pipe and does it dump enough? also the msd DIS 4
a bunch of people are running and it works great however
it eats ciol packs and will cause a miss around 6 k I heard .just looking for input thanks

I have a Innovative controller and I tried it with a stock gate. THe boost was 4psi off (set it for 14, the wg minimum) and it shot to 18+. Set it for 10 and got 14psi.

At the track it was a different story. Set it for 17 (looking for 21psi) and the boost shot up to 25, then down to 15, then to 25, then to 15, then to 25.......

With a 70 turbo and a stock style gate it doesnt work :P

I emailed Innovative and the is the response I got.

Sorry you're having a problem.......I believe your gate is too
small......

Time for a external gate :P

INNOVATIVE WHAT??

Bob, I have tried the control w/ a te44 on a TTA w/ the stock actuator.. Had the same problems as is described above. Never got a strait answer either. Took it off and put a bleed valve on it and WHAMO.. rock solid boost.
what happens w/ the stock act is it's a single port and cannot react fast enuf.
Cotton says he made it work.. didn't find out how from him either!!
I use the INNOVATIVE Pro-gate.. works great.. NOW, after I had a 2 week hassle w/ them concerning the damn directions that had info missing!!

NOTE: there is a NEW version of the controller out!! It has more features than mine does. IE: changeable ramp rates for each gear, etc. Older versions are $75 to upgrade...There's even a newer 1 too. still being tested...

HTH:D :D
Cu thurs!

I have thought about getting one of these.

Does it work well with an external gate? Does the external gate need to be a dual port or will the single port work?

GATE CHOICES??

Mike, I have had both hooked up to this controller. First, I had an ATR single port. It leaked at the face of the valve as the valve was stainless and the cheapo flange on the ATR headers that the gate mounted/sealed on was mild steel. I also had slow boost rise w/ that gate.
I then changed to the INNOV. Pro gate.. It too was plumbed as the directions called for as a single port..[Thanks to them, there were NO instal directions w/ the gate!!] Had slow boost rise there too. Went to the dual port plumbing.. Still no good... Saw a post by Shane Hill, of his problems w/ the controller. He and I had several conversations and I contacted the controller mfgr. We had several while I was trying to figure out why the controller would not hold the set boost. [I have a pressure source/regulator/gauge system to test it with]. During these many e-mails, I downloaded the current instructions from the website... Seems there was an 1/8"NPT plug that had to be moved.. I had left it out, as the first set of directions I had said nothing about it.. just not there.
I put it in, and WHAMO!! The tester confirmed it would work EXACTLy to within the +/- 1/2 # it was supposed to hold..

Bob i moved the msd ground to the coil pack pedistal. Put a very large ground strap from the driver side head to the back bolt of the pedistal. Went from 35 to 32 on the plug gap and also put some .020 shims under the rocker shafts and it has not missed a beat. I had to turn the boost down a pound and back off the launch rpm sunday to stay in the 10.50 breakout no box class.

Hello
not to get off the subject, but if anyone is looking for the innovative controler I have one.
Chris
slowGN

also are you using it single port style or dual port style, if so wich way has better control, i am using ATR external wastegate and i am fighting a slightly slow spoolup
thanks
Otto

Damn Bob...leaving at 5,300? I bet that netted a nice 60-foot time...or removed some life from the tires. ;)

At what RPM are you shifting?
