Intake Gasket

Is there some special secret that I don't know about to get the intake gasket to quit leaking oil on my buick... I used the factory rubber end seals with silicone in the corners and made sure everything was clean, clean, clean.......I had the block decked and the heads too and the machine shop milled the intake to fit again.......I gettin sick of oil leaking down on my exhaust and burning.

I just replaced my intake gasket less than a week ago. Like you, I put a small dab of untra-black at each of the corners (under and above the corners of the block seals) and a thin coat around the block water jacket and the intake water jacket. Around the intake ports, I used a copper gasket cinch (on the block and on the intake). Let the gasket cinch set up (10 minutes or so, until tacky). Then position the inatake gasket and then carefully set the intake onto the block straight. I used PST teflon thread sealant on each of the bolts and torqued to spec.

What makes you think it's not your valve cover gaskets leaking?

I just put new valve cover gaskets on 2 weeks ago Then I used a tracer dye in my oil to find where the leak was coming from....I found it leaking in the rear pass. side cylinder head between where the intake and rear head are supposed to seal

don't use the rubber seals. they always slip, especially when the silicone drys and EXPANDS. just use a bead of silicone for the end rails. the new stuff. i will post a part # soon. it is good stuff. they call for it to stop the 3.1 leaks(infamous)

The silicone I have is called RTV Silicone Rubber Sealant-Black....The GM part # is #12345739.......Is that the stuff you're talking about?????????

no,that's the old stuff. i have about 50 tubes of it. the new stuff is actually called "assembly adhesive". it is light grey. i will get the p/n when i go to work on monday.

If you are closer to a Chrysler/Jeep dealer try their ATF-RTV part # 5010884aa. Been using it for years for end seals on intakes on Jeeps and Chevy motors. Also works good on rear dif covers and of course trans pans if you're into not replacing gaskets like Chrysler is.

I would recommend USING the rubber seals, However, I not only put sealant on the ends, but also a small bead down the length of the top and bottom of the rubber seal. This forms a complete seal, and in my experience has never leaked again.

Might make sure the PCV is doing it's job, and if in doubt add a check valve.
Enough actually crankcase breathing area?.
Excessive blow by?.

With the relatively small amount of drainage with the closed lifter valley, and turbo drain, you have to be sure your treating the cause and not the symtom.
