Hello to all the GN owners, new to sight and looking for some expert advise.
I have just recieved a new ESP balanced intake manifold for my 87 gn. I have already cleaned the block of all carbon and gasket material and am ready to install the new manifold and gasket. With the manifold I recieved the gasket and a bottle of RTV. My question is were and how do you apply the RTV for best seal and performance. I have all torgue specs and tightening sequence, just need help with RTV location. Any help would be much appreciated. Especially pictures. Thanks for your interest.

You should have recieved two rubber gaskets with the vally pan gasket as well. If not go back to your supplier and get them. They go along the front and back of the intake and seal to the block. I have always used the RTV under those two gaskets at the ends, in the corners where the heads meet the block, (only at the ends) around both of the water jacket holes on each side...(on both sides of the vally pan gasket), and put it on the threads of all your intake bolts as some of them end up in the water jackets. If you don't put it on the threads you will end up with antifreeze on top of the intake. HTH ---Keith

Opinions will vary. I have always had good luck doing what is mentioned above, putting the RTV on the conrers where the rubber seals meet the gasket. I also RTV around the coolant passages on the gasket itself.

Some just throw out the rubber pieces and use only the RTV to seal the front and rear of the block.

I would say just let it get good and dry before putting any fluids in the car.

Spray both sides of the gasket with copper coat spray
Smear Rtv around the water ports not too much though
Toss the rubber end seals and use "The Right Stuff" along the block rails and make sure to get a good bit in the corners.

Use care when installing not to disturb the sealant beads in the front and rear.
If installing in the car ..Tilt the intake and get it under the fuel lines in the front and then ease er down.

Cal Hartline does not use the rubber end seals, he turned me on to using the "Right stuff" instead.

+1, have always done it this way without any problems.
