I was wondering who makes an internally balanced balancer and flexplate besides BHJ and JW respectively. For those of you using these two manufacturers, have you had any problems, complaints, or comments about them?

I would also like to know what the price is for both. I think the balancer is about $300 and flexplate $150?

Thanks

BHJ damper with ring installed is around 400. The JW wheel is about 200.00. Both great units. I have both.

balancer

I have a NEW BMS small lightweight balancer with interruptor ring (internal balance or neutral as some say) for half that price.

If you use the BHJ, be sure and check that your timing is where it belongs....mine was out of register enough to advance my timing to unsafe levels at WOT (you can fix this with FAST or in the chip)

Do you plan on running 10.99 or faster at the track with this car? If so you need an SFI damper made from steel.

Yes the car is in the 10's now and I am shooting for 10.50's this year. I was planning on getting an SFI balancer for this exact reason. Is the BMS balancer SFI approved?

?

I assume the BMS is approved, but don/t know for sure and really don/t care in my case. It is machined from a billet piece of steel. I know some guys in the mid to low nines using them. They are also off 4 degree, I had to make a new pointer. The interrupor ring is right--the top dead center mark is off ( I/m guessing 4 degree).

Interesting.... anyone run into the same timing problem with an externally balanced BHJ? How exactly do you fix it?

From what I know the BMS is not SFI. I have 2 here with no SFI stickers on them or serialized SFI documents The BHJ units have both.. The NHRA rules state must be SFI certified and steel construction. Yes there are a few guys getting away with them but they are not really legal in the NHRA. All you need is a tech inspector that knows what he is doing and he is not going to allow you to run faster than 11.00 with anything other than an SFI unit. I have seen 4 guys with very fast cars not allowed to run because they had either the stock IRON unit or a BMS unit. It really stinks to gamble on getting a tech guy that knows the difference or not. I choose not to roll the dice and I bought truly legal parts for my car. It's up to you if you feel lucky trying to pull that at the track. I agree the BMS units are safe and high quailty but they are not SFI. I had one BHJ unit that the ring was off just tad we sent it back to BHJ and they corrected it for free.
