I bought some Rotella T at Wal-mart since everyone here mentions it, but it's 15W40. Is there any reason not to use this in the car. After a search, I noticed that it was mentioned when breaking in motors and that's about it.

Thanks :D

Cool, thanks. I couldn't see any reason not to, but figured I'd double check.

I use the rotella 15/40 with the stp
I do notice alot of oil psi until she warms up cold is like 80

Did it help your warm PSI at all? My car's at about 12 lb's when warm, and it freaks me out to see it, even though I've read it's normal. I'd like to see it a little higher than that.

Mine is at 23psi with 125k on it.

Rotella does make a 10w30 also that is what I run in my car. I usually get it at wal mart.

Thicker oils like that have a slower priming through your motor but its 212 viscosity rating is a bit better than your typical 10-30.

I am planning on running something similar but have a Preluber and no oil cooler to help temps so thinning is a bigger concern.

I am sure that everybody is aware by now that even Rotella was reformulated a while back and no longer carries the amount of anti-scuff agents such as zinc that it did before the reformulation process. The Rotella that is on the shelves now is not the Rotella that was on the shelves 8 months ago. The reformulation took effect about the same time that the container was changed.

Well that stinks... That was the whole reason I bought it, lol. Anything off the shelf (Read as "not at a dealership") I can pick up to fix the situation?

Just add EOS and all will be

I too did some research on this. I know that the new Rotella 15/40 has less zinc and phospherous. The new Rotella has the Sunburst label on it. I spoke to them at Shell and they told me that there is still plenty of Zince and Phos in there.
Here is the difference between old and new

Rotella 15w40 Phos 996 zinc 1130 (Old STUFF)
Rotella 15w40 Phos 843 zinc 946 (New STUFF)

STP makes an additive that adds plenty of zinc and phos.
The red container Phos 2115 zinc 3932
The blue container Phos 1704 zinc 2436

As you can see that adding the STP red will bring the content of phos and zinc way past the original Rotella.

Here is the site that shows what oils contain as far as zinc and phos of the Rotella and STP as well as other oils, scroll down about half way which has info on the CI-4 and the new CJ-4 standards.
Oils: What oil should I use? Which oil is best for my Porsche or aircooled engine?

Also, here is where I bought a case of the STP red additive
STP 4 Cylinder Oil Treatment (15 oz.)

Hope this helps

Which is the best brand and weight to prevent hot engine thinning? When my car gets to about 205+ (15 PSI idle, 35-40 PSI driving), the oil pressure drops by a 1/3 of what it is at 170-200 (25 PSI idle, 50 PSI driving) [and if you're curious, 40 PSI idle, 70 PSI driving while cold]
I was looking at the Mobil-1 15w40. Opinions?

Chevron Delo 15w-40 is still available in the CI-4 formula. It's pretty easy to find too.

There was a post many months ago about using Harley Davidson motorcycle oil with all the good stuff.
