I come here since everyone knows this is the place where people know transmissions :D

I have a 500 ft/lb 460 hp smallblock 427 chevy and this 6 clyinder 700r4.

(stop laughing!)

I would like to build it for agressive driving and be able to take it to the track without gernadeing it, is it worth anything at all?

Now I figure I'll need to replace most of the trans with heavy duty parts anyway, like the input shaft, pump etc. So is there a reason NOT to start with this trans?

Or should I save it for a core?

I suppose the valve body would be the killer eh?

Thanks Guys
Keith

trans

Unless it is from a 4.3 it won't bolt up.

thats right, however the 4.3 s10 calibration is great for hot rod use as it was set up for a 3.42 ratio rear.with minor tweak itll shift up to 5500 at wot .itll work behind your big block just search around here for the good parts.

Yes it's from a 90degree V6 so the bolt patteren is right.

Chris That 5500rpm up shift, is that in drive?

Is there a way to make the 700 not shift untill I manually shift it?

Like the TH400 I have now will hold untill I move the shift lever to the next gear...

You might also need a set of V-8 clutch pistons since GM likes
to cut costs by putting fewer clutches in V-6 and low power
applications.:(

yes in drive.it will be able to hold low 1 forever with a .296 int boost valve readily available .when calibrating you should keep the wide open throttle automatic shifts less lower than the redline otherwise youll have to lift the throttle to initiate a gear change when manually shifting.dont get scared its real easy to accomplish with the right parts.
