I need to pull my tranny out to have it rebuilt and I'm thinking
about having the heads ported while the car is down. My question
is should I pull the engine and tranny out separately or both
together ?

Thanks
James

James..if it aint broke dont fix it.. leave the heads alone unless you blow a head gasket.. words of the wise..once you crack that seal..its like a zipper for head gaskets.

I have a set of tricked out TTA heads on the shelf since Feb this year..theyre not going on..unless I blow a gasket..havent ion two years..

Tranny comes down in an hour tops..no majic..

Careful what ya ask for ;)

Hello Razor, thanks for the reply. I do understand what you are
saying about braking that seal, however it is not the factory seal,
the engine had just been rebuilt by the previous owner shortly
before I bought it. The car does run good except for the tranny
slipping a little bit, so maybe I will take your advise and just do
the tranny for now. Speaking of the tranny, is there anything
special that I should have done to it, or will a general overhaul
be sufficient? Should I stay with the stock D5 convertor and stall?
The car is mainly driven on the street, but I would like to take it
to the track a few times next year. I will be having Vince Janis do
the tranny rebuilt because he is only about fifty miles away from
me and I've heard he is really good with the 2004R's.

Thanks
James

P.S. Hey Razor, my next investment is going to be a alky kit, so
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you in the near future:)

James,
Invest in quality clutches and the band. here is a list of things my trans has in it and so far so good,

Wide Alto band with hardened pin,Alto clutches and kolene steels, 10 vane pump, billet servo, art carr shift kit, roller center support, chrome rings, hardened stator, and a kryo treated forward drum. The forward drum is controversial..

Converter I have is a protorque 12 inch..its a modded D5 with higher stall.. I got a deal..hence why I have it.

A buddy of mine use to have a D7 converter he really liked for a stocker..

Look if you invest in parts that up the pressure and have better holding power, you should be ok. There is a lot of reading in the tranny section of this board.. get a little immersed..you'll be ok. I have heard only good things bout your tranny guy. If that helps ..hehe

If I can help, hollar :)
