Is my TC acting normal?

I have an Art Carr 9" 3200 LU converter in my TTA, pushing about 400HP to the wheels. Anytime I get on the gas the RPM's flash up to about 4000RPM until it catches up. My 1/4 mile RPM is about 600RPM higher with the TC unlocked vs locked. Also, my tranny starts getting HOT after 2-3 autocross runs (2 min runs). I have a front mounted tranny cooler.

Is all of this normal or should I scrap this TC and get a new one? I have the engine out so now would be the time to do it.
