just wanted to know if the GN transmissions are different then the standard 2004R's, thing of getting another trans and building it up, that way I dont have the car down

The main and most important things are the valve body and the governor. They need to be BR or BQ calibration or you will have wrong shift points and shift charactistics.

I bought a 200-4r tranny from a guy on ebay who built it for racing from a non GN, Monte SS, Hurst/Olds 442, core. He put a modified Transgo Shift kit, 200C servo and extra clutch pack in the 4th gear pack. I put it in my 83 H/O and it outperforms my OZ tranny that came from my H/O except for 1-2 which I will fix with a servo swap. Don't be fooled into thinking that you MUST start with a GN, SS or H/O 442 tranny. In my opinion and experience most 200-4r can be built for performance. Get a good shift kit, at least a GN servo or billet oversized servo and modify the smallest size of your governor for higher WOT shifts or just swap a governor from a GN, H/O which are still available. Also get the .470 or .500 p/r valve and you should be happy.
