...if you have power going to it all the time?

When hooking mine up, I tried connecting the power wire to the IGN as the instructions indicated, but there was no power. So I connected it somewhere else. But there's power to it all the time.

After a few seconds of power, with the car not runing, the Scanmaster seems to shut itself off. I'm assuming this is normal, and that I can leave it connected to the "hot" wire all the time without damaging it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

The Scanmaster does have auto power off, so what you're seeing is normal. It's handy to leave it hooked to power all the time.

There are 3 or 4 places in the fuse box labeled IGN. I would try to see why they have no power on/off with the key. May signal some serious wiring problems if that doesn't work right.

I also wouldn't leave it on all the time either, the switch idea is a good one. :)

The Scanmaster is designed so it can be powered all the time. There is absolutely no problem with leaving it connected to constant power.
