is this 02 Z28 a good deal?

I am looking into buying this 2002 Z28 that is for sale locally. Here's the info...

Silver 2002 Z28 (not an SS) automatic (only flaw), chrome wheels, T Tops with shades and bags, perfect black leather, Monsoon CD, tires look to be fairly new, this car is bone stock with 43,350 miles on it. I only saw a couple small rock chips on the lower front bumper.

They are asking $13,700 for it.

what should I offer him?

Well, I know $10K isn't going to cut it.....the car is at a dealer, and I know several of the employees. The car has been advertised at $15,500 for 3 weeks, and now they have it at $13,795

One better- take a buddy with you, and give him 1k to hold. Offer $8500; the owner will puke. He'll say $11k-ish; counter with 9k. Play it ups it's all the $$$ you have.

If he's true to form, you'll be able to play the sympathy (and cash on the table) hand, and he just might bite at the 9k. If not, the tell him to wait a minute; take your friend aside, and then send him off to "get more cash". offer and additional $500 or 1k, depending on how you feel the sale is going. While he's gone, play up the sympathy a bit more, but don't over do it.

Take the car home.

Make sure you drive up in a POS, and not your GTO- unless you friend's driving as 'his' car. Part of the sympathy ploy.........

well, unless the bank is going to let me take $10K to them....and then trust me to bring it back, that won't work. I will have to finance it

Whats KBB retail?? What will the bank loan on it?? Once you get those figures than there's your answer. Sounds a little steep IMO. Maybe because of the low miles and condition. If you cant swing it no big deal. Plenty of LS1 Camarobirds out there. Keep looking until you find the right one.

Whats wrong with an automatic?? I'd rather have that over the T-56. T-56 is more of a liabilty than an asset IMO. I guess 20 years of driving a GN will do that to you.

To give you an idea Tom, I paid $13,900 for my 2002 Z28 with 33K on it and it was running 10's when I bought it. It had heads and cam, headers, exhaust, bolt ons, built (crappily I might say) tranny, and new tires and rims. I can't remember if you've seen mine but its pretty clean. Not as clean as the GN, but what is? The only thing I considered bad about mine was the tranny slipped on the 2-3 shift, but I was getting a built one anyway.

There are deals out there, and the dealer is the last place you're likely find one.
