I need an intercooler. I really do not want to spent 1k on a new FM but I want to open up my combo because I think there is some potential in it if I get rid of the stocker. I have someone who can give me a deal on a Eastern FM or should I get a neck on stocker. After reading Bob Dicks write up I don't know if it is worth blocking the condenser and rad for this interccoler. It seems like the dutt neck is right behind this intercooler. Any feelings on this?

Since you already have alchy, and its cooling affects, I'd just go with the Dutt neck. Its cheap, still looks pretty stock, and will probably increase your boost by a few psi. I would do this first.....then in the future, if you have money to burn, get the FMIC. You know how it goes....it never ends!

I did the the Dutt mod. The way i figure it, for the $120 I spent for the mod, I might have gained a 1lb and lost a 1/10. If in the future I decide to go for a large stock location then I can always sell the stock/dutt intercooler and break even. The way the stock neck is so narrow it has to be some kind of cork in the system.

I did the duttweiller neck on a stocker years ago. I never noticed any difference. Why not try the powerstroke IC if you are budget limited?
That setup looks like it has some potential.

The stock neck is a choke point, once you reach a certain level of HP. Until that point there is nothing to be gained, since the stock intercooler's location also forces it to run at a higher temp., then a F/M. It's your call about what you want to do, but, I've wound up running a Cotton's, and the Progessive Alkycontrol kit to get the most out of what I have. The F/M might just be a little more then I need, but, I didn't want to wind up doing things more then once. With what I have, I'll never outgrow it.

I dynoed my car with and without the duttneck and I saw a solid 30 HP gain...I never took the car off the dyno swapped them right there.

Also this was on my pump gas tune I'm sure the difference is even more with the boost turned up.
