Jacking points for a Regal

Is it safe to jack on the frame rails on a Regal? I'm talking the side rails that run under the rocker panel/door area.

I ask because I went to jack here to rotate the tires and for some reason it looked like the frame was bending in a little bit...as if the c channel was too weak to support the weight of the car.

No my car's frame isn't rusted swiss cheese either, it's an NC car and has been all it's life.

Just to the rear of each front tire is a wider part of the frame on a taper. There is also a small port there as well. This is the jack point for the factory jack. In the rear, just forward of the tire is a similar portion of the frame.

Usually in the rear, I just jack at the pumpkin. I also jack the front from the crossmember under the motor.

Do not jack your car up on the frame rails. They will bend. You can put the jacke under the differential or under the cross-member under the engine. Then place your jackstands in the floor flat spots on the frame immediately in back of the front tires and immediately in front of the back tires.

Yeah that's what I noticed, and yet this is the first full frame car I've had in which I couldn't do this....with the front and rear the best reinforced and the sides leaving a lot to be desired, it almost makes me think the G bodies are nothing more than a unibody car with glorified subframe connectors.

Well I wanted to rotate my tires, guess I need to just take it to the frame lift....?

yep, I learned the hard way, and the best part is, they put the fuel filter right at the point on the frame for the jack before the rear tire.

Read the instructions for using the jack and spare tire. Both in your owners manual and the label stuck to the bottom of the trunk lid. Same spots somebody would use if they put the car on a hoist.

The frame is strong enough to support the car if you use the rear position to lift the entire side off the ground. I do it all of the time. Not really recommended though.

Sorry don't have an owners manual.

Also I wasn't using the factory jack, I was using a 3 ton floor jack.
