Jumped time. Bent valves?

Went to start the Buick this morning and would not start, engine sounds labored and exhaust backfires. I think timing chain skipped on gear, I think it still has original timing set. My real question is, if it skipped time while cranking engine over will it bend the valves?

Anything special I need to be aware of pulling the timing cover off to replace
the timing chain?

Better verify with a physical check of the timing mark at #1 TDC before you start taking the car apart. Symptoms could be many other things.

if you just take the thing apart make note of all bolts and take pics pack the oil pump with vasaline when putting it back together and get caspers cam sensor tool it works great.
