If we don't sell... we haven't lost anything! I think it's too late to sell and too early to buy now. I went through this before in '99-2000 when the internet bubble burst and the 911 tragedy happened but it all came back. When it did, I switched about half a couple years ago to bonds and CD's so my hit this time in my 401k/IRA was about -25%. Who knows what will happen this time but with lowly politicians getting involved, I fear that worst may still be ahead. I heard on the news yesterday that some Dems are talking about getting rid of 401k's or disallowing tax deductions so that could screw us and any hopes of a recovery.

I have lost about 10% maybe a little more in the last 6 mos. No where near what others lost recently. I moved all my aggressive stuff to conservative and this saved me a lot of $. Id be down about 35% if i didnt make the switch 8 mos ago. I also dropped my contribution to the matched minimum of 6% at that time. I saw this coming. Im about to go aggressive again after the election and ramp up my contribution to 1/3 of my gross pay to make up for my low contribution % the last 8 mos.

I still earned .035% last qt. Every dime was in a stable value account, right now I'm watching for bottom, predicting 6700 volume

In 2000 I made a pack not to trust the stock market after a loss. I instead invested in realestate and done very well

A lot of the reason the market took a $hitter is because of real estate. The whole financial portion of the market got slammed and the economy is dipping. Its a bad chain reaction. Though i will say if you can spot a good deal in real estate its always worth it and always will be. Most people dont have the liquid cash flow or equity to capitalize now and lenders arent taking any risk today.

Buy high, sell low, & make up the difference in volume?

You cant sell your retirement (401K, IRA's). Your limited on the contribution per pay period and the total contribution for the fiscal year. If you have a very high income you may not be elgible at all for IRA's. You can only roll over your retirement into a different fund that utilizes different sectors. Cashing it and taking the early withdrawal penalty would have cost over 40% of the value anyway. So rolling it over into less aggressive funds and pulling the plug on the contribution % at the correct time can help as long as you maximize your yearly contribution. It will come back hard. Has every time it dropped so far. Hopefully sooner than later.

Not really sure whats confusing you Im puting more into my 401k so in the upswing I can gain some ground ,Never mentioned selling anything:rolleyes:
Only a joke from the gun show trade days, Niznuts, nothing to be taken personal. At least, it wasn't meant to be taken personally.

Good Lord, Ty, a biscuit & gravy will buy that dog's heart for a month. Well, until he or she is hungry again.

She would love you forever! She is very spoiled, like tonight we are having ribs and I will make her a plate as well:wink:

I enrolled in my companys 401k last year, doin max, w/ 50% match, as of this week, $157.....I was in the "aggressive" column on how I was investing. Luckily I had a 401k at my last job for 10 yrs, that is moved elsewhere.

E-mail my plate, please.
Ty, she might be an ounce or two overweight, like I can't tell that she is spoiled. Dog eats better than I do, Ty, make that a big E-mail plate, please.

Scott, are you sure that the figure quoted is not a typo?
.035% is actually .00035, and on a 100K jumbo CD or jumbo money market that is only about $ 35 in a years time. Sure you don't mean 3.5%?

Ty, that dog looks pretty well fed. Expect me sometime this week.

I bought some Geritol today Gary, Penny says the spare plate is her's but we can order in pizza Hut for you:biggrin:

Carter's Little Liver Pills, anybody?
Just throw the pizza in the blender and set on puree.
