I finally went out for a cruise tonight after 2 weeks of not driving it.
on the way home im cruising about 65mph barely touching the gas.
I lay into it a little in high gear and just as it starts to make boost...bang..bang.bang like a m-80 every time i tried to give it gas.
I let off the gas and coasted and it was idling but every time i tried to give it ths slightest bit of gas it did the m-80 bang. So i coasted along for about 5-10 seconds then it stalled out and i rolled off to the side of the road and got flat bedded home.
Once home in my garage i tried to start it, fuel pressure is fine, cranks with compression, no knocking or anything unusual just seems like it has no spark. my thoughts are either crank or cam sensor but im too aggrivated to look right now. By the way...its a gen 7 dfi with a msd coil pack and dis-4 ign.
any idea will be appreciated,thanks

Not sure of the dfi configuration, but to me it sounds like the crank sensor. Its fairly cheap and can be replaced without pulling the balancer.
Good luck with it, keep us updated.

Thanks for the reply, I was just speaking with someone on the phone who suggested the same thing. Im going to calm down and then ill go downstairs and take a look and let you know, thanks

Ok, I went down and climbed under the car and the crank sensor is tight and intact, visibly it looks to be fine. i checked and confirmed the car has no spark. i put my bypass plug in the msd cable and still nothing, msd is ok. the cam sensor and wiring to both sensors also looks visibly fine. My question is, if its a cam semsor problem would the car still have spark? im going back and forth between the crank sensor and the module under the coil pack
(even though its an aftermarket one with very little use) my thoughts are to replace the crank sensor first, but it looks really good definately not original, and the bracket is tight. i prob should first hook the laptop up and see if there are readings from the sensors. any more ideas are surely welcome!!

Take the cam sensor apart,Remove the cap,Then the small screw and see if the tab broke off and the reluctor spun,You CANNOT TELL by just looking at it or trying to spin it,You must remove the screw and take it apart,It will cause a no spark, mis timed spark on a after market ecu,I think though if you tell it to fire in batch mode it will run.

Ok, latest update; You put me in the right place but as usual my problems are never easy. The tang on top is fine but the dowel pin snapped on the cam sensor at the cam gear, i turned the oil pump shaft and its not seized but im thinking something is going on to lock it up to the point where it shears that pin. And to make matters worse, after i pulled the sensor out the shim above the cam gear fell into the front cover. It looks like i will need to remove the front cover and examine everything. The oil pump has a plete in between which i assume is some kind of high volume deal??? im figuring the worst and ill prob need a new cover and oil pump assy even though the shaft turns.
before this happened ive noticed lately that the car had ****ty oil pressure in gear stopped like 15-20 with new oil but then went right up as soon as you came up a little with the rpms. any more ideas please post away.

also please post any leads to a new front cover preferably a better quality one if such a thing exists, and a oil pump set up also. Thanks for the help as always its appreciated.

I believe silver seal sells a new high volume front cover, thats what i have on my girdled 109 block-

If you want a new cam sensor, i would order them from rockauto.com part number pc16 they are 44.00 complete shaft, gear and with cap and wiring.

I just got mine today, i ordered them monday, i bought 4 for my cars.

thanks for the leads, do these people have web sites????
id like to just order this stuff now and then have it ready when i take it apart, thanks

quick update for those wondering, In case you didnt see my other posy, i took the front cover off and found the timing chain tensioner spring broken and the tensioner mangled and hanging off the side. everything else looks to be fine. I have researched the problem and found out that because i have a double roller timing chain the tensioner wont last, I found out that the cloyes set eliminates the tensioner so tomorrow hopefully ill order one. I think I have a comp cams one in there now but im surprised it didnt eliminate the tensioner. oh well, live and learn. I dont know what id do without this board to answer all my questions and guide me along, Thanks to all.
