Listen I know this has been hit on a few times but I am confused.I have a thrasher92 and a kenne bell ultimate chip.I know that everyone bashes the KB chip and insists on the thrasher but my car just plain pulls and spools up harder with the kenne bell chip.I was wondering if there was an updated KB chip that I might have gotten a hold of.It has very good idle, spools fast, nearly zero knock and my fans kick in faster.I also get a faster shift into second and it takes off.My thrasher holds first till fricken 45 mph and seems to lag off the line.I have an area where I run the car on a deserted street and from point a to poiunt b i can get up to 60 with the KB and with the thrasher I barely get to 50.Did I accidentally get a good Kenne Bell chip or what?Is there any way some one can put this chip on a computer and tell what the programming is?

The Kenne Bell probably has more timing in it, so it would be a bit faster. You may have to tune your car completly different for each of the chips, as the Thrasher does not use the O2 sensor, and has different timing/spool up characteristics.
I don't see how changing chips would affect your shift points. The chip cannot control anything inside the tranny except for the tcc lockup point.
Just some thoughts.
Oh, and if your car likes the Kenne Bell chip, use it!
Different strokes for differnt folks..............:)

Fireman,
We are in the same boat! I'm here to tell you that I experienced the exact same trans shifting issues you discussed. I thought my trans was getting sick until I realized the shifts were o.k. it was just taking forever to get there. As soon as I switched back to my old chip the shifts were perfect. The chip doesn't affect your shift points, it just gets to the shift points quicker with the high timing chips. I agree with WSLN 6, if it works for you use it. I know I'm gonna.

Thrasher 92 is not a "fast" chip. Around stock boost levels, it is "slower" than most other 93 chips, including the old tech ones.

The idea of the thrasher 92 is that you can run higher boost with it than you can with the other chips when using the same low octane gas. If you set the boost level the same, the thrasher will almost always be slower. Higher timing street chips are great in 1st and 2nd, until you stay in them into third and get massive timing retard.

IF the FP is set at 45 psi and boost is around 16-17 psi, the thrasher 92 is a very good street chip that shouldn't act out of the ordinary on a fairly stock car.

Doesnt the Thrasher allow a little faster spool then the stock chip?

It spools faster than the stocker yes, but probably not faster than a higher timing KB chip

hey fireman
ihave my kb chip for several years on the street . started with the ultimate chip then had it updated from kb to the pro chip for the 40lb injectors . the car passes emmissions and pulls like a mother f****r. call up kb if you want to update your chip . ask for jim and tell him what you have. or stay with what you have if its running good.

Yeah, the KB chip might be a little quicker and higher timing, but I can probably get away with running more boost (with my stock-like setup) without knocking. I hope....

I think this is it right here. I've never had 2 chips that you could just swap them and do a comparison, it usually takes several days to get the car optimized. Even simple stuff like setting your base idle/IAC/fuel pressure can greatly affect your spool up on any chip and they all require a little tuning. Thrashers in particular can't just be dropped in for some of the reasons mentioned.

Read the Thrasher pages for tuning tips. The bonus is, you'll also learn more about how your ECM works. You'll need some tuning tools and a little faith that you can turn up the boost to seemingly high levels for pump gas.

I liked the Thrashers when I could use them (running 50's now) and REALLY wish development was continued on them.

So basically, a Thrasher 92 at stock boost levels provides little, if any, benefit over stock due to increased retard in 3rd gear?
S.

hmm, I've got a kb Ultimate for 40#ers and when I downloaded the info on it and used Tunercat to compare it to the stock chip, I found the timing table was identical, all that was changed was a few constants for fan, TCC, injector const, etc, and the boost solenoid pulsewidths to allow for 99% boost through all the gears.

No, the T92 increases power thru more boost as opposed to more timing. Works very good and has a lot of improvement over a stock chip. Some guys can run 18-19 psi on pump gas with them. Its true they are not the best for third gear pull but are great for driving around town 0-80mph

It's real simply, you are basically comparing a ~street chip to a ~race chip. The race chip has more timing...you want a better comparison to the KBU, try a Trasher 100.

i dont think the kb ultimate chip is even close to a race chip i drive mine updated for 40lb inj with 94 octane on the street. once and a while i ad a can of 104. but deffinitly not a race chip.the hot flash chip from kb is a race chip .need some c16 for this one

I compared my Hypertec 3 to the Thrasher 100 and got basically the same results as the fireman. My car is quicker @ 20 lbs of boost w/100 octane with the Hypertec than it is @ 22 lbs with the Thrasher 100. See my post titled "Thrasher doesn't like my setup" I'm not saying drivability is better or that the Thrasher is no good, I'm simply saying that for nearly stock setups more timing less boost is faster than more boost less timing. This wasn't a drop in the chip and go comparison I spent a couple of days and about 50 bucks worth of 100 octane to come to my conclusions. Would the Hypertec chip be considered a race chip? I can run 15 lbs of boost on 93 octane without knock in any gear.

I have a Kenne Bell chip that has a sticker that says 23*. Is this the ultimate or the pro? Thanks Tim.

I can relate.... When my combo was more stock, I settled on the KB hi/lo pro chip. With regular street radials I was getting a traction limited 0-60 of 4.5 seconds (g-tech) with no knock. My car happened to like that chip. That was for stock injectors, turbo and pump gas.
