Not sure if this is 'real' or not, and wanted to get some opinions.

He's basically saying he found flash memory between his keyboard and motherboard in a Dell laptop. Not that Dell doesn't already have my credit card number...

Could be there for any number of reasons. Since it's a Dell, they probably have it there to enable parents to "monitor" what their children may be using the laptop for. If I read correctly, it's connected to the onboard LAN? There may be a feature "offered" in Dells that allows people to monitor whatever gets done on their laptops.

Legality of such a thing? Can't tell you as I'm not a lawyer. Usefulness? That's really up to you. If you want to check the veracity of this guy's claim, crack open your laptop and take a look at what he's talking about. If it's true, just remove it - shouldn't be too difficult. If you get any strange calls from Dell support, you'll know it was put there for the wrong reasons...
