killed my ECM?

long, long story, which we don't want to talk about here...but...

I accidentally drilled into the wiring harness that goes in to my ECM...

I hadn't disconnected the battery or ECM before I did this, so I am fearing the worst...

The car cranks, but won't start. The SES light does not come on, and I do not hear the fuel pump starting. I checked all the fuses, including the fuseable link for the ECM (which I had replaced with a fuse long ago).

Did I fry my ECM?

Any ideas?:confused:
 
While it's possible that you may have killed it, I'd be more inclined to say that you have a broken wire or two remaining in your harness where it was drilled.

Those ECMs aren't that expensive or hard to find luckily as they were used in a good number of other vehicle models. Consider getting another regardless, as it is always nice to have a spare around for troubleshooting purposes.

I am pretty sure I got all of the wires back together. Two were severed, and about 4 or 5 were chaffed.

Is there any way to test with what I have now? I know I can try another known good ECM, but I don't want to wait...

...also, a buddy of mine has my turbolink cable, and he is out of town...so I can't use that...
 
I FIXED IT!!!

My best bud is an electronics guru. He was over last night to check the car out after I "murderized" my ECM harness. He unplugged a molex behind the glove box when he was troubleshooting and he forgot to tell me...I plugged it back in and I am back on the road!!!:cool:
 
umm... I would have come up with a better excuse than that. First of all, an electronics guru forgetting to plug something back in.... sounds kinda fishy. Secondly, we know you don't have any friends.

Tell us what really happend! ;)

I asked him what impedence was...

...he told me that was when you couldn't have kids...:rolleyes:
 
Now that was pretty funny!!! I'm glad everyone else is out of the office, cause I just busted out laughing on that one.
