True on that. My 28K GN will show up as having 128K exactly for this reason, emissions tester thought since it was such an "old" car when I bought it in 95 that it had over 100K on it. Actually had around 5K on it when I took it thru emissions the first time.

Did you fix the problem? What steps did you take?

Taking pictures of a car on grass is like taking pictures of a boat laying on an asphalt parking lot.

Don't know if there IS a way to fix the problem. Never worried about it because I know how many miles are on it and don't plan on selling it right now. If that changes I guess I will have to look into it though the car's condition will speak for itself.

Exactly! The cars condition is what a knowledgeable buyer looks at & not some carfax report or the speedo reading as both can be manipulated.

Mine too. I'm the one and only owner of my 86, but because of mileage penciling errors on the part of the druged up smog guy, car(mis)fax now shows mine with odometer tampering.
And of course since I bought my car to be a driver and not an investment, I don't keep every scrap of paper tied to it, and can't prove them wrong. They require a huge amount of original documentation if you dare dispute them.

Their is a way to fix the problem. Carfax has the information on their website on correct issues. Its a hell of lot easier to do it when it happened during the period of your ownership.

I have a car with carfax typo that say the mileage was turned back. The odometer is digital and oil change reciepts show it wasn't turned back. I would have to track down the owner of when it happened to get it fixed.

Let me know how that all turns out. Trust me it isn't that easy.

Oh I have seen your car Mark. It looks like it has 1000 miles on it! The paint is beautiful and the interior is flawless. But considering tampering with the car (Not Motorcycle) odometer in the state of Connecticut (Im not saying you tampered with it) is a felony I would address that Carfax problem sooner then later. If you ever choose to sell your car someday a potiental buyer might run a Carfax report.

Considering there are quite a few shady people in this world (quite a few here in Bridgeport:rolleyes:) I would not put it past someone to report the vehicle to the police as a possible stolen car or one that has been tampered with.

I have personally delt with that same issue on several occasions where people state that someone is attempting to sell a car for XXXXX amount of miles and show me a Carfax report indicating many more miles. I advise the complainant it's a civil matter because Carfax is not supported my the Dept. of Motor Vehicles as a valid indicator of mileage. Some Cops are not too bright and have wanted to seize vehicles with Carfax reports differing from cars current mileage for further inspection and forward their reports to the auto theft division.

It may not cause you any headaches right now because the car is not for sale but considering your car truly looks practically brand new it could cause some issues further down the line. It's not a race car and has no cage so it will be much more desirable then the average GN that does have a cage.

It's unlikely it would give you a problem but some day you might want to part with your car and a correct Carfax reading on a mint car like yours could only help with the sale.

I'm SORRY KIRBAN AND GENTS!!!!

My apologies very much regarding the wrong mileage for this car. It's absolutely a gorgeous very low mileage 710 mile car. I originally didn't notice it was Kirbans (whom I have a lot of respect for), and I didn't look at it carefully. I carfaxed it myself and noticed the wrong mileage, but it was a CARFAX MISTAKE.

The Pictures do tell the true story, and no doubt it's a gorgeous low mile 87!!

MY BAD!!!

A quote from the listing
"A great plus to this car then others is that it was signed on the trunk ID label by Molly (who was responsible for the design of the Grand National back in 1987.)
It would be like having an original Cobra that was signed by Carl Shelby.
"

I dont think so.

Who's Carl Shelby.............................?

I didn't think that carfax would correct anything that wasn't their fault. If that mileage was reported to them that way (incorrectly), I don't see them correcting it. I have heard a lot of people make this claim, but only a few people that have told me that carfax admitted that it was their mistake, and the error was corrected. Does the term "written in stone" come to mind.

I thought I was the only one this happened to! I went to the emmissions station and the dummy put that the car had 4900 miles I immediately went and got plates and the prvious owner had put the correct miles at 49000. So car fax shows it as possible odometer fraud! I spent several hous on the phone with the BMV and Car Fax. The position Car Fax took is "They "BUY" their information from the state of Ohio and ASSUME that it is correct" Bottom line my car show a screwed up Car Fax unless I was stupid enough to turn the miles forward 40k.

When I take my car to the "Smog Only" station, I tell them that it is an actual 22K mileage, (actual mileage is now 22, 9XX), and if they have a problem with that, do not continue with the paperwork or smog but notify me immediately, and I verify what they put down carefully as soon as I get the paperwork, or I have them show me before they continue. Mistakes do happen, I just want them to make them on other cars & not mine.

Wow this seems to happen to alot of people. It happened to me as well, I was fortunate enough to have paperwork to dispute it and after filling out the proper paperwork that did correct it. I happy that in IL now we no longer have to take gn's or tta's for emissions.
