i made a 65-110 mph blast in 3rd at WOT - no kr.
then i shifted in to overdrive for the same 65-110 mph at WOT, when it left 3rd and went into overdrive- i could feel it engage- and it was pulling, but i also saw 1.6kr, 2.9kr 2.6kr.
why knock in overdrive, but not drive? i'm also getting kr at about 3/4 throttle in overdrive at any speed.

makes sense. guess i gotta turn to boost down. damn, i only want to turn it up:biggrin:

would a looser converter cure this? i'm running the stock one with a te60 now, but i have a trans specialties 3000 in my parts collection.

Race in third only.

OD not meant for full boost, the tranny does not like it nor does the motor.

I guess if you felt the need to do top speed passes, you could get someone to burn the chip to reduce boost in OD.

What does one do if his transmission won't go into third, when the shifter is in 'D'? It shifts perfectly in '[D]', but won't go into third at any throttle position in 'D'. I asked the question in "Transmission Talk", but got no reply. I suppose a visit to a transmission shop is in order?

My guess would be that your linkage is out of adjustment, and when the shifter shows D you're really not there. Put the shifter in OD and see how many gears it will go through.

Was beginning to wonder the same thing.....my car will drop from 4th to 3rd if I want to pass someone on full boost, but I've wondered if I want to pass someone if I should just manually drop a gear down to 3 and then stomp it?

Let the tranny do the downshift. It knows when best to do this.

doesn't the ecm add in more timing when it sees that the trans is in od?
this would help with fuel economy when driven "properly"..

I don't think it does on the turbo motor but does on the NA motor. It's called "Highway mode"

Like I said: In OD the tranny shifts fine(through all the gears).
