My laptop screen does not come on at all just a black screen.
when i connect a monitor to the laptop it works fine no problems
SO i am thinking about dropping off the laptop over by Best buy or microcenter for the repair? BTW WHICH ONE should i go with??
My main concern is the access that they will have to my personal info on the hard drive.
How do you guys handle stuff like this??
I am considering removing the hard drive before dropping it off BUT will they still be able to fix the screen issue with out a hard drive???
OR
Would i have to buy a hard drive just for them to work on it?
thanks for your advice guys
David

Why don't you just buy a screen replacement? I cracked mine and bought one off eBay for $40 and swapped it myself. There are videos all over YouTube for how to's.

Make an image file of your laptop to an external drive, then use the factory disc(s) to restore it to as-new. Have it fixed and apply the image file when you get it back. It's a little more complicated than that, but you get the drift...

Copy the personal data to a thumb drive, delete it from the laptop harddrive, have it repaired, and copy the personal data from thumb drive to laptop.

If it's not under warranty, tear into it and fix it yourself. The one i'm typing on right now, was left behind in a rental property because the screen didnt work, just like yours. I took it apart and found that the connector had come loose off the motherboard. Free laptop which has proved to be a HELL of a lot more reliable than the $1000 pile of SH!T dell XPS that my wife bought for the photobooth.

I think there's a way to do a screen test on powerup. Have to hold one or 2 keys down when you hit the on button and it will run the screen through a color test. Google it for your specific model.

Thanks a lot guys for the advice and suggestions.
I ordered a new screen last night from Ebay.
As a real cool board member has volunteered to replace it for me.
Ill keep you guys posted on how it goes.

BTW this is my wife's laptop that i used for my car (PL).
After its fixed i will never touch it again. She is giving me hell over this and i didn't even break it - But its my fault since i did touch it.

It's always going to end up being your fault one way or another. Just say " Yes Dear, I'll take care of it." Always worked for me.
