i am getting laser eye surgery May 4th..... anyone who has had it. want to chim in and let me know what to expect? like pain, days off, 20/20? still need glasses?

thanks

My mom had laser eye surgery when it first came out. She said that it didn’t cause any pain and she wasn’t off work except for the day that she had it done. You notice the change immediately the day of the surgery and your eyes will be sensitive to light for the day. She does still have to wear glasses for reading. Hope this helps. :D

My aunt had it years ago when it first started. Still has perfect vision. My wife had it in Feb last year. Perfect vision, only took 10 minutes. The prelim visits took more time. She, and my aunt, both wore contacts/glasses their whole lives with VERY bad vision. Perfect now, no drawbacks/side effects whatsoever. Money VERY well spent.

The little hottie at the Chinese restaurant we always eat at had it done and she had eye trouble before and they had to do it twice. She said it came out good, no pain. Just red eyes for a week and the sensitivity to light. I think she was HOT with her glasses though. I told her to get some with just plain glass in the frames.

I can't wait to have mine done though. I am nearsighted at 20/40. I'm not scared though.:D

Worth every penny for correction. I went from 20/900 to 20/10. Feels like a bee in your eye when they cut the top layer off and some pressure, and a little smell of burned flesh. Sensitive to light for about a day The laser stayed on me for a while, kinda concerneed my wife, she watched it on a huge monitor. Good luck you wont regret it!

I had it done 1 year ago this week. I wore thick glasses all of my life. My contact prescription was -6.50. I now see 20/15. It was the best $5000.00( before insurance) that I have ever spent. Be prepared for dry eyes for a while, a little scratchy. The only drawback I have seen is that in really dim/ low light it takes me a little longer to adjust. But I would clearly trade that for no glasses / contacts. If you have any questions ask.
I was going to get it 5 years ago but my ex's aunt had it done and had problems with glare. I drive a lot and was scared away until I found a Doctor I was comfortable with.

My wife had it done less than a year ago.We paid $2700---you can cheaper--but if there is ever ONE thing you don't want to go cheap on--this is it----we had THE BEST in our area. She went from 20/400 --to 20/20---remarkable---she comments all the time how great it was.I watched it on the office screens---not near as bad as i thought--I would do it over again for her TOMORROW!!!!

good luck

Geoff

Best $ I ever spent!

Lasik is amazing!! I paid $1800 for both eyes to be done a few months back. Wasn't able to really sleep after the surgery though because my eyes were watering so much. Don't really know what my 20/x was before or after, but I can see perfect. It's great to work under a buick and not have something fall in your contacts or have to push up your glasses!!!! Good luck, you'll love it!

My friend had radial keratotomy done to his eyes for his 40th birthday...

He had his 50th birthday last November, and while his distance-vision is still 20-20, he now needs reading glasses. Whether lazik can take care of that problem with us old folk, I don't know...

Eye Surgery

I had Lasik done 4 years ago...Prior to surgery I was 20/600+ and was considered legally blind without corrective lenses...After surgery I was 20/10 in both eyes...4 years later I am 20/20 and so grateful I had it done....Best part about it was I didn't have to pay a thing...was a college graduation gift.

The way i understand it--it will not help you.My wife was told she will still probably need reading glasses in the future--it corrects the problem--but can't fix the aging process.

My wife's doctor said that this procedure wouldn't cover reading glasses in the future, but there IS another procedure that does cover it. She just doesn't need them yet. Talk to the doctor about it and get the facts from the horse's mouth though.

OK, older guy chiming in here, ;)

I was very very close to having to much up to tri focals  Been wearing glasses since high school :(

I had a rather difficult and experimental (at the time 4 years ago) proceedure done called "mono vision". Some contact wearers have their lenses made for mono vision.
I had astigmatism in both eyes, AND was far sighted :(

Basically mono vision is that one of my eyes was lased for near vision, and one for far.

Turns out that it came out perfect!!!!!!!!! I now see slightly better than 20/20.

The brain automatically compensates and uses whichever eye it needs for the distance being viewed. One never knows the difference.

BTW, the only immediate post surgical discomfort involved is tenderness if you happen to touch your eye lids when closed over your eye ball. That can hurt but only lasts a few months. So keep your hands away from your eyes ;)

If you have a reputable person doing the procedure, you'll love the results. Virtually instaneous great vision. And the best part was it kept improving over the months following!!!

Nobody ever tells you this, but I think it will help you. I love my laser vision, but I have a bad habit of getting dehydrated.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER. BEFORE FOR A COUPLE DAYS, AND TRY TO DO IT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER.

My results were great, as everyone seems to be posting, but I think the healing is better quality and the slightly dryer eyes you can expect will be much better if you stay very well hydrated while the healing completes.
