My '87 GN has a PT52 turbo at 17-18 PSI, PTE front mount, 2800-3000 stall conv., stock suspension and vaccum brakes, etc.

Went to the track last night and could not launch at all!! Footbrake and throttle to the floor only building 4 lbs of boost. Getting like 2.4 60'(I know sucks bad!!!!!) Will a boost controller solve my spool up woes? When i let the brake go at full throttle the car goes a little and then finally builds boost and takes off. My MPH is OK but ET is ****! Seems like the stock wastegate Sol. is killing my spool up, bleeding the pressure off. This soumd right to anyone? Already ordered a MBC. Help!!

Is the puck/arm moving freely? Is your wastegate solenoid working? What condition are you wastegate solenoid hoses in? Any exhaust or vacume leaks? There are sooo many things that could be causing you woes----what diagnostics have you done so far? Let us know. Brian

The wastegate hoses are new and I cannot hear any exhaust leaks, also used a smoke machine on the vacuum system and no leaks visible. I just got the tranny back and purchased a converter from a board member here. The converter was supposed to be an orange stripe, but when I got it it was red in color. Upon questioning the seller he said it was an equivalent of the orange stripe. Now when I footbrake and floor the car it seems to stall @ around 2300-2400 RPM and the tires will barely break loose with the throttle to the floor while footbraking it. Again only can get about 4lbs of boost at launch and car doesn't go anywhere. That is why I'm hoping a MBC will help spool up. Seems to be a lot more lag now. Car is fine from a roll, but doesn't have anything from a stop.

Where is your air cleaner?
Does your car roll out of the beams and then get a bunch of power about 20 feet out?

filter is behind drivers headlight. Just an Open element K&N cone. IAT temps are pretty high on the scanner. What Is a typical IAT temp?

That convertor is too tight for the 52 turbo. You need something in the 3200-3400 range. Then it will be really fun and spool easily at the track.

What converter would you all recommend(Brand, stall, Price)
Need something reasonably priced if I can ,and a Lock-up unit.

I'm at a loss for good l/u convertors nowadays. Guys have had problems with the 9/11 style convertors and other guys don't like the rattling noise associated with the Vigilante convertors so I don't really know. I am lucky that I have a local company here that has proven they can build a l/u convertor for a TR that will stand up to our abuse. If they weren't local, I don't know what i would have done.

Im going to try a Pats 10" for my GN when I get the new turbo installed. Not saying it is the answer to all lock up issues, but from everything Ive heard its an excellent alternative to paying out the wazoo for a 9/11 or precision convertor. As long as youre not making a bunch of power (600hp or so) it should hold up fine. Just a thought, this isn't some shameless plug for Pats.;)

I love my Vigilante. It's a 6 pump 5 disc, and stalls at 3,500. The lock up is a real kicker, and I'm not worried about full throttle locks. It's a great piece----you should buy within your budget, but don't expect top performance from a lesser convertor.

they have held up to over 600 horsepower for me in about hald a dozen applications so far.absolutely "no" problems so far.excellent product and excellent to deal with.

enjoy your new pat's converter!;)

I run a Pats converter and have very good luck with it, car is driven daily when it's not raining. It's a cheap alternative compared to the 9/11 for sure.
