First off, hi all I'm new to the board and this is my first post. Quick history on my trans I got used with unk mods but would bang 2nd, and hit 3 and 4 real hard too. About 20,000 miles later and about 100+ high 12 low 13 passes later just driving on the street I lost OD and it started whining like a power steering pump with no fluid. It had a rebuilt restalled D5 when I installed it. I drove home in drive about 5 miles parked car overnight tried it the next day and same problem. Removed trans, rebuilt with Alto red clutches and kevlar band and 13 vane pump with a friends help who is a certified GM tech fo 15 years.
I'm not sure but while apart it seemed to have a B&M shift kit with the spacers no spings on acumulators and 3 holes drilled bigger than stock in the X plate. It also had 2 balls removed. Stock gov. and servo.
I reinstalled it with a used Vigilante I had about 3400 stall. No changes made internally except enlarging the pump drainback hole. The trans now shifts so so 1-2 and I have to lift off the throttle alot to let it go to 3 or it just slips and 3-4 feels worse than stock. My car is an 84 regal with sorta stock 87 GN motor trans and rear. Any Ideas what went wrong. Sorry for the long post.

i dont know a damn thing about trannys but i put a shift kit in my car and while doing so realized my 1-2 accumulater spring was shattered so when i went to the tranny shop i got that spring and the 3-4 spring well when i pulled out the 3-4 it was fine but i figured i would replace it with the new one anyway but the one they sold me was alittle shorter and now my car shifts great from 1 to 2 and is real lazy going from 2-3 and somtimes i have to lift to get it to shift to third dont know if you replaced those springs but im shure that is why my car shifts like crap into third.

Good idea on the gauge. I assumed pressure was good due to the good 1-2 shift. And my trans has no spings in the accumulators just spacers which worked great before rebuild. It will be a couple weeks before I can test the pressure I am away from my car right now. Any other ideas keep em comin.

Likely too if it slipped so much that you have to let up on the gas the direct clutches are toast.:(

definately needs its vital signs read via the gage.dont let this scare you,it can be easily done at home.

I'm not scared of the gauge, I just didn't think of it. I guess that is where I will start when I get back. I was wondering if their is more than 1 separator plate gasket for the valve body. What I am asking is do shift kits have a gasket with holes diferent than stock? I put in a stock one but had unk shift kit in the trans. Also my trans had 2 of the 12 balls removed. One was the TV exhaust the other I can't remember off hand. Far as I know Iput them back the way they were but if I put the other ball in a different spot would it shift like this? Remember it worked ok for about 500 miles before this happened.

tv exhaust omittal is universal,.if you installed the 3rd accumulator ball in the case and the hole in the plate is blocked the 2/3 will be out of synch with the servo release.
