So last week I changed my converter , replace front and rear seals and filter but now it's leaking from the front and rear seal . What happen , was. Suppose to put something else with seal to prevent it from leaking ?? Like some lock-tight !! Also I might need a new TV cable . Does anyone know how long is it ?? Thanks fellas

Some use a little RTV sealant around the outer Seal surface to Trans Case.
Did you lube the Seals where they ride on the TC Hub & DS Yoke so they wouldn't be dry at startup?

Trans Case vent not clogged with dirtdabber nests?

Maybe I'll try using some RTV? And I didn't use lube on the face of the seal . I'll do that this time for sure . My first time bringing down a transmission . That bolt where the dipstick is attached is a real pain in the ass to turn the bolt . And I didn't check if the vent was clogged ? It's a little hose on top of the tranny right ?? Should of have I poke it with something to clear it out or what should I do ??

Yes, the tube is on top where the Bellhousing starts to get big. A small piece of wire will work. If there's any dirt there try not to push it in, jiggle the wire around.

Here's a few TV cables for 86-87 GN's:
Extreme Automatics Where winning is easy

Not cheap but, better than AZ, Advance's etc..junk if they even have the correct cable.
I looked on RockAuto & they only had a Detent cable for TH200 listed.

Vaseline will work well on the Seals, it will stay in place, in case you don't start the car right away.

seal install

You may have kicked the wire loose inside the seal. Next time fill inside seal groove with some vaseline in 3--4 spots

So last night AGAIN we took down the transmission and installed new seals front and rear and lube the seals as mention with some vasoline in the groves and its leaks again ??Kinda frustrated ...and also both of the cooling lines were kinked and i replace them with some rubber ones and now i got a small leak as well ..damm!!! i removed the dust cover and I turn car the on and it spraying lightley as the coverter is spinning because it leaves a stain on the ground as well ?? i turn off car check underneath car , it has fluid around the housing because its spraying. as i look the converter staft by the front pump look pretty dry from underneath?? i can see about in between 1/4 inch to maybe half inch of converter shaft? is the normal or did i need washers in between flyweel and converter??

From TCI's site: TCI - TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Frequently Asked Questions
What type of clearance should I have between the torque converter and flexplate before pulling the converter forward and bolting it to flexplate?

Answer: You should have 1/8" (.125") to 3/16" (.1875") between the torque converter and flexplate before pulling the converter forward and bolting it to flexplate. If you have more, washers/spacers are needed.

Is there an ideal way to measure the converter and transmission outside the car to make sure you should have the proper clearance between the converter and the flex plate before installation?

Answer: Yes, you can use a straight edge, laying it across the face of the bell housing. (Engine side) Then with the converter installed in transmission, take a ruler and measure the distance from the straight edge down to the mounting pad of the converter. The measurement should be as follows:

2004R will be about the same, 1-1/8".
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L60 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads.
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L60E 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads.
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 4L80E 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads.
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 1 1/8" from Bell housing to Pads.
GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 1 3/16" from Bell housing to Pads.

What Brand/Type TC did you install?
It may have a crack, bad weld etc..
Need to clean it well, Brake Clean spray etc.. then blast some Baby or Talcum powder up in there to locate where it's coming from.
Get it up on some Jack Stands so you can see well.

i got a new 10 PTC 2800 stall. just got this about less than a month ago. i did try to check for cracks around the converter but kinda hard to tell. how do you use the powder to find cracks?? Also my converter is bolted straight up to flexpate, so shoud i use some washers to get tha 1/8 gap. that should push the converter hub more into the tranny and maybe help from fluid coming out. if its leaking from the top part of seal that i cant see from underneath.

The fluid will leave a trail/path in the Powder. It's hard to tell where it's coming from when it being slung around.

You only need to use Washers/Spacers if the TC is seated all the way in the Pump and the clearance between the TC & Flexplate is more than 3/16".
You want 1/8" to 3/16" clearance. If the TC Hub is too close or too far from the Pump Rotor it will damage the Pump.

Ok I'll try using the powder technique tomorrow morning. But I think the converter was pushed all the way . I didn't have to pull the converter towards the flex plate but I'll try to push it towards the pump if I can while its in the car if possible . Thanks you SSAdan64 for the info

sounds to me like the converter itself has a leak.I have seen them leak from the neck weld, the weld around the conveter, and where the converter mounting pads attach to the back side of the converter.I would take it to a local shop and have them pressure test it.
