Left rear fender flare for my new project

You may have already seen the pics in the cars for sale section as I was originally looking for an 83-4 Skylark T type. I bought an 81 Olds Omega Sport from a junkyard. It's complete and I can probably reconstruct the flare. If you know someone who has some oddball NOS parts around or have seen one of these in a yard please let me know. This is a one year only option on the front drive Omega. I finally picked the car up from the junkyard last week. I know it needs a lot of work but I couldn't resist. The floors need work because it was in the dirt. Surprising to me is the rocker panels/lower body is actually solid thanks to the textured zinc coating GM put on the bottom 4-5" of the cars back in the 80's. You either like it or hate it. I'm going to have to reconstruct the fender flare if I can't find another, that's why I hope someone has seen one of these around. I can do it, but finding a good one would be much easier.

Still looking for it, and maybe the drivers fender if possible too. The part# for the flare is 22501905 and for the fender(22506849). If I can't find one does anyone have suggestions on how to repair something like this. I know it'll involve using a plastic welder. What I'm wondering is there someplace I can get a sheet of the right material to make up most of the missing piece? Oh, come to find out they only made 696 of these cars so if you have seen one ever in your life I'd like to hear from you. Where did you see it? Because I'll post a WTB ad on Craigslist in your area, who knows, I could get lucky.

I wish I could help with the parts but I just wanted to say congrats for saving a rare piece of Olds history. Not for everyone, that's for sure, but very cool indeed. Good luck with the restoration.

I've repaired the drivers fender so I don't need that. I think I spent 3 days in the garage getting that fixed. I decided to buy a plastic welder since I would be doing a lot of repair to plastic body panels and the bumper cover on it and the air dam on my Shelby Charger. I also went out to a yard today and cut the floor out of an 84 Skylark to repair the floor in the Omega. The stuff to repair plastic ain't cheap I tell ya. The glazing filler(bondo) for plastic was $35 for the tube. It is a fairly large tube but still it's twice the price of regular filler. Oh well, gotta use the right stuff or you'll be doing it again.

Get it whipped back into shape. Among other things that happened over the course of its life someone actually swapped out the 2.8 V6 and put in the 2.5 Iron Puke. I'm going to keep it simple, replace the 4 with a carb'd 3400 V6, I also grabbed everything from a 4 door Skylark to do a manual swap. I'd like to know if I can use a thicker front sway bar from something else that would swap in. As far as when I get it repainted I suppose I will keep it original although I was thinking of using a pearl white instead of the regular GM white just to make it stand out a little bit more.

One of my buds used a front sway bar off a Celebrity (sp) with the handling package. Made a big improvement over stock. You may want to look into it.

I went to the Upull yard last weekend and got the heads and piston/rod assemblies from a 3.4 V6 Camaro that I needed. I also took the front bumper cover to work and had Keystone pick it up at the Honda dealer so they can tell me if they'll fix it and how much. I'm hoping they say they'll do it. I could do it, but I think I'd spend a week getting that cover smoothed out with so much of the surface needing repair.

I think it shoud be moved to the resto section myself Brad. It's an interesting idea and I think you should put a supercharged Series II in it just to see what will happen.:biggrin:

The resto section is good too. I may put in an L67 later, I can always sell the modded 3400 to the fiero guys around here later on if I feel it's not enough. I have my spare L67 in the shed.

I went to the Upull yard in Rosemount and on my way I seen the front of an Omega in someones garage just before the exit off Co. Rd 52. I decided to stop on my way back. Well when I stopped by no one was home and for the life of me I could not find a pen in my truck . Oh well, I got the address so I'll mail a letter with a pic of my Omega. I'm sure he'll call then. I took a couple of his though. It's a 4 speed car too.
