license plate maximum letters

whats the maximum number of characters on a plate, i was thinking like "FWD SUCKS 1" or something. just wondering.

Minnesota is 7 characters max, and I dont think they will let you put "sucks" on the plate.

Why don't you just go to your states website? It looks like you can try different combinations online to see if it's allowed or not already taken.

The larger the state the more #'s & letters. Go to your state DMV website. It is true, must have a vanity plate section that will allow you to type in what you want and it will tell you if that plate is available or not.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. For Illinois, you can go online and check. Here in backwoods Indiana, were not that high tech...

Really? Better check your information. Six is the norm. The larger states allow seven, MOST are six, and none are eight.

Wrong on the none are eight. NY will allow eight. Most are 6 tho yes.
