whats life like in LA? Im thinking of moving there in a year or so. How it the economy, are there good jobs avalible, what it the mean and average price of a house, climate, price of gas, state taxes, landmarks, crime, ect...

I am thinking of either moving to Anahiem, Gardena, Altadena, The valley, Lakewood, or Venice Beach, I dont wanna live in south central, AROUND it because my car has been shot at enough, and I dont want to spend more than 200,000 on a house, and want to be close to a major avenue.

Holla back.

My Mom lived in Gardena for a year and that place aint no joke. Straight gangster neighborhood that is next to Compton.

out of all the places you listed...anaheim is the safest but most expensive. the valley, gardena, and even alta dena are a bit on the ruff side.

i live in north hollywood right now and its not bad. im looking at moving east to upland ontario chino area next year. thats where im going to get a house. as far as jobs? what kind of job you looking for? gas. its not to bad but its not as cheap as some other states. i think i paid 2.99 a gallon today. crime, crime is everywhere ask how i know. you just need to find a place where its not as strong. an area that has alot of patrol is good. as far as 200,000 thats not a bad price. im looking at houses around 250-275,000

In all the places you are looking good luck on 200k. Ive been looking for a year plus now. Good deals are there is you have cash in hand.

out of curoiosity, why would anyone want to move to a state that can not balance a budget & is broke?

Because..

you can actually see the air you breathe???:D
A fresh murder scene to drive by every day, on the way to work?
So you can learn a new language, just to order a Big Mac?
Sounds like a great deal to me....

Because he's about 17 years old, if I remember correctly. Young, dumb and full of it.

Check it... Im 18, just about done with college, and have a good mind to start to build equity and buy a home and have learned to save my money... why do people have a problem with that... Im listening...

I had a stopover at LAX on my way to Hawaii about 16 years ago. I took a walk out side for a bit of fresh air.... yeah, then the heat dam near knocked me off my feet, I went back inside. The return trip was around mid-night, much nicer.

18 and just about done with college? move to the space coast and get a job with nasa. you are a genius

youre asking a forum made up of about 90% rednecks about LA
what do you think theyre going to tell you?

great place, go visit, get a feel for the many different areas and your mind will be made up i'm sure.
a house in a nice area of la for 200 is a longshot, might want to look at condos, or perhaps at the surrounding counties.

wat ju taking abaou min, we espek bery goo englishh,:biggrin:

What's up Nasty,, I went to anaheim, to visit disney and man that is a beautiful place, the people there as cool as can be , we went into a target cause i had left my video camera in vegas, and the one i was looking at was about $1k, so i was going back and fort, until the guy behind the counter ask " what do you think" i told him i have a very nice small digital that i paid about $1k and did'nt want to spend that much again, the guy said " i can help you with that, "I said how? he said i'll give you my employee discount" dude the guy saved me $325 dollars.

just alittle story to show it's not all bad out there. I love south beach but cali and the Pacific coast hwy, was just AWESOME!!.

Redneck, huh? I guess I can live with that.

I'd line up some work before I decided where I want to go. Kinda hard to pay and build equity if you don't have income.

Just for grins, why are you wanting to settle down and be strapped to a mortgage? Now is a good time to buy but at your age you might want to travel and see the world. Maybe not. A cheap apartment for a six month or a year will tell you quite a bit about an area before you commit. If the deal of a lifetime comes up you can always break the lease.

It always has me in aww that people cant find a house for under $250k , but the area is the ghetto in poverty?!

WTF!? Thats 1/4 MILLION folks.

Whats wrong with CA that you need 1/4 million dollars to live in a SHACK and expect bullets and stolen cars on your property?!

I understand they MAKE MORE per hour, but still ... even thats not cumbersome considering they can vacation in the rest of OUR COUNTRY for pennies on the dollar to the cost of most of us (from other states) ---

I keep my Redneck 5400 sqft 8 car garage house in a town of 25,000 that hasn't had a murder in 10 years in the middle of a metroplex of 3 million+ people where I can commute 17 miles one way every morning in 26 minutes.

Got to run though, our 5 time Texas state high school football championship team is playing at the new Billion dollar cowboys stadium.

I won't mention the 5 drag strips within an hour's drive or that my '86's won't need to be emission tested next year...actually I shouldn't be mentioning any of this.

Please disregard everything I've said. Texan is just a bunch of azz backward yehaw hillbillies. Please avoid them at all costs.

You might want to skip LA and check out other areas like San Diego. Just moved from there a few years ago. When we lived in SD we avoided LA like the plague. bumper to bumper traffic in the middle of the night on a weeknight!

A house for $200k? Yeah right. Not in LA, unless it's made of cardboard.
When I moved to SD in 2002 the minimum for a raggedy shack was $250k...

Might check out Riverside County. Temecula and Murietta- It's in the boonies but a few friend that live out there tell me the prices took a huge drop so you might be able to find something reasonable.

Either way, you're gonna PAY for the beautiful weather...

Good Luck.

All of the places you listed would be a no go for me Orange county and LA. Too much crime at or nearby to have anything nice. They will s hit all over it on short time. My aunt has lived in Anaheim which is about the mildest of what you listed for about 14 years. Her place is decent but the neighbors are mostly undesirables. There is prevalent gang activity everywhere you mentioned also. My best friend lived in Anaheim on two occasions. She couldnt take much of it. Too much crime and no place to raise a child. She now lives near Costa Mesa/Santa Ana its a lot nicer where she is but still a little to rough if you make a few wrong turns. My bro lives in W Hollywood in a decent area. Much better than his old apartment in W Hollywood on Fairfax which was about 800ft from Santa Monica Blvd. There there was constant noise and the neighbors were a bunch of dicks. Constant noise all night long. My choice of cities to live in would be Huntington Beach or Malibu. Both really nice but you pay the price in high rent. If you are not a highly skilled worker that is able to get employment quickly and at a decent rate of pay id stay the hell out of CA. Cost of living is high as hell and unemployment is going through the roof.
