how hard is it to fix the tranny from staying locked up once it is hot

Not bad.
TCC solonoid, just be sure to pay attention to the wires you unhook and make sure you don't pinch any when putting back together. I did my own.

Mine does this as well, thanks! I gotta pull the pan for a fluid change anyway so will have a look. Is the TCC solenoid usually bad, or does it just need to be tweaked somehow to prevent the sticking?

The solenoid armature gets packed with fine metal from the steels in the trans and causes it to stick when hot. It's very difficult to clean...I have done it but it's easier to just change the solenoid.
