Trying to figure out why Black Power keeps telling you to bring a gun... like any large metropolitan area, Houston has it's share of "bad" neighborhoods but we also have a lot of really nice areas and everything you could want in-between; both in Houston proper & all over the surrounding burb's as well (Sugarland was recently voted one of the best places to live in the US.) We ain't all cowboys & desperado gunslingers down here anymore...
As others have already said, it gets HOT during the summer but the mild spring, fall & winter seasons more than make up for that IMHO. There are tons of activities / culture / sports type events available, along with a huge restaurant scene & plenty of access to outdoors type activities (camping, salt & freshwater fishing, hunting, etc..) as well.
The car culture scene down here is HUGE... Check out The Houston Buick Club for the local Buford nutz & here's a good source for some solid stats on the area:
