Hi There: I am the proud original owner of a 87 GN. I was looking for an online forum to collaborate with other like minded peops and try to find a transmission with the Grand National core.

The transmission shop that's rebuilding it says I need a GN core. Sadly, the last one I had installed was a standard 200 4R which lasted about 2 weeks. At the time I was not aware there was a big difference between a GN 200 4R and a stock one. I will be rebuilding it in Canada.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch!

Rob

I'm pretty sure the gear train is no different from any 200 4r. Just valve body and governor calibrations. My guess is the one that lasted 2 weeks was not built right.

Plenty of our vendors on here can set you up with a vb/gov combo. Most with 500hp go to a bigger aftermarket servo for 2nd and the required pump mods for the pressure needed for that hp level. And a hard stator support and sun shell for good measure. And if dual feeding or just wanting to for go the tow truck, a billet shaft forward drum.

Hi Rob, if you do not find a core, I can set you up with the correct parts to turn your trans into a BR.

You can use the core you have and calibrate it to work correctly. There are many differences in the BR, but all that can be done with a standard core with the correct parts and instruction.

If you need any help, feel free to give me a call.

Dave

Much appreciated Guys! Thanks for all the wonderful advice. It's nice to feel the love for Turbo Buicks :-)

Rich & David, I am passing all this info over to my builder now. If we need any parts we know where to turn, thanks.

Where are you located?

I am in the Sunshine City [Orillia, ON].

Thanks again!
