Hey guys... Im in the market for my first TB.. im looking to spend 10k or under.. Ive seen some deals like that on here a few times... Im just curious whats out there for that price and ifs worth my time to buy one cheaper and do some fixes and mods or just buy a car all ready to go.. Being you guys have been threw a number of TB's and have been there buying your first one.. Looking for pointers.....

i would say get one that's done already, and at the very least has good paint because that can get real expensive. I would avoid cars with a "fresh rebuild" as it seems tons of people have gotten burned on that. If the car has mods it better have some monitoring tools (ie scanmaster). Lastly have someone who knows their chit go with you before you purchase! Buick guys are awesome at helping out! Good luck!

Yep, buy someone elses money pit. There out there. I would look to spend a few K more and get a nice turn-key car.
Ok im curious Theraf: about the fresh rebuild.. It seems like alotta these cars are freshly built..What do i look for? Maybe one with a lil more milage on the rebuild ?? Make sure where they got it rebuilt is a repable shop?
GNBRETT: You have given me the same info about yr when i was just learning about these cars.. My buddies break my balls b/c of me thinking about buying sumone else's money pit.. You know not doing the mods and all that myself, not getting to know my own car.. Which is hella true.. But dam I think these guys are just jealous of me having a car running 11's in a v-6 .. whiles there still in the 13's wit there v-8's hahaha.. Thanks for the info.. and if you guys have any more.. Like GNBRETT says buy a nice turn key and save yourself the headaches. Cheap now means more money later plus the down time.
Decide now if you want stock, 12 second, 11 second, 10 second or ???? vehicle and find one that is done and drivable. Obviously the faster the car the more money it will cost. Stock gets boring in a hurry and low 11 to 10 second cars are too fast for street fun (my opinion). But to each his own
Number one rule; make absolutely certian the seller can document the build of a reputable engine builder or you will just be rebuilding it again.

A reputable shop would be great, but I bet whoever you buy the car from is going to say the shop that built it knows what they're doing. Personally i would like to see at least 6k miles on the new motor so you know it's going to stay together, unless the shop that built it is widely known by the buick community. It seems if a rebuild is going to fail it usually happens within 6k.
Alright guys thanx again... I will def be considering all this in looking for my first TB.. I would like a High 11 second car.. thats still got Ac and heat.. Im not looking for the fastest.. Im jus looking for sumtin to hold its own on the street and is fun to take to the track.. And drive it back home... Its going to be my weekend car as i already have a daily driver..Im going to Ocean City, maryland next weekend and id wanna take the TB on that 3 hr drive next yr wit no worries.... Im sure that gives you an idea of what im looking for..

If I was you I would narrow down a few cars to look at and then have someone who knows these cars go look at them with you. Just because they say it's a fresh rebuild doesn't meen it was done right! A reputable known shop/builder that has been mentioned on this board speaks volume... Deals can be found right now so if you have cash in hand and ready to buy you can sure find a deal but be ready to buy fast!

Thanx Scott.. Ive noticed alot of nice cars selling fast..Kinda sux bc im almost there in the money department... Kinda hard to have an eye on a car thats prob not going to be available when im ready to purchase... Im just trying to get as much info on the cars as possible.. what to look for in a nice car. Im located in South Jersey. But will be looking to purchase a car as for south as florida.. Nd north up to Maine.Nd probly no further west then West Virginia...Not afraid of driving a bit to get a nice deal..Which i realized is neccesary.
Ask a lot of questions ie rebuild, has it been raced, accidents, stolen, how many ricers have been eatin by it, how many v8s have been eaten by it, how many girlfriends have been lost because of fright.... :wink: Here are a few more things I would check if you are buying from someone private.
1. Check the Vin
2. Check and then Research RPO codes
3. Crawl under it and check for Posi
4. Crawl under it and check for a BRF trans
5. Check for rust

Damn, that car is local to me ... reminds me of my youth. I had a guy in town that always wanted to race me in his GS vs my 67' RS
---That Buick GS is bada**...Ive always liked them cars... Maybe somewheres down the road..I been dreaming of having a TB since i saw my first one whistling by my and my dad when i was 5...I made the mistake at a young age thank god.. and said dad was that a Monte SS hahaha..my dads like no son.. thats a totally different beast there.. and ever since 1990 i been wanting one..haha thanksfor all the tips guys... maybe thatll give ya guys a lil reasoning behind the want for the TB
