Would like to get some feedback from those with high stall convertors. I've searched the archives but haven't gotten a good answer for the question of 28" tall tires for a stock motor. some say that with a loose convertor, the 28's are the way to go. Others say to stick with 26". Please see my signature for my combo. I can't find a street tire that will let me leave with any boost at all without spinning up.
Also, How much is the speedo affected by 28's?
All feedback appreciated.

I have the vigilante 9.5 and I HAVE to run ET streets because radials will spin all the way into third gear if I punch it.I run 26x10.50 right now but with the recent mods will probably go to 28s.They are kind of tricky on the street.they have good manners if you keep them around 25psi,they hook up best for my car at 12psi.So,if you do any serious street racing and let the air out, dont hold any sustained high speeds until youve aired them back up.Also be sure it is not going to rain while you are out.it is SCARY,I have been there and it aint fun.

Running a 9" convertor with the stock turbo, that's exactly what you should expect, frying the tires all the time. Go with BFG 275/60/15's which are 28" tall and that should help. Going with a bigger turbo that can make use of the convertor may help add a little lag whic may help to keep from obliterating the tires all the time.

Stock cam pulls hard to 5000rpm. If you're going faster than mid 11's or more than 5000rpm through the traps, go to 28" tires. Never heard of the 'loose motor' diagnosis.

thanks for the opinions guys. I have run sticky tires on 15" Draglites for many years with no problem. I like the look of the GTA wheels for the street, but the 16"wheel doesn't offer enough sidewall flex with 26" tall tires to hook up so I'm looking for more sidewall and contact patch. I am wondering what downsides are associated with running a taller tire. the "loose convertor" theory is: Higher stall = quicker spool = harder initial hit, which gets the tire moving which allows you to get away with a taller tire. I know that back in the early days I used to see other GN's at the strip with 28" tall tires and they had a hard time getting the tires moving with stock convertors and the tire actually slowed them down. I did the trans work 13 years ago with the intention of going with a bigger turbo, but I never got around to doing it. (maybe this year)
Any more opinions?
