My friend, works at the local buick dealership, and i asked how i could get a job there. she said dont bother, the buick section of the shop is going away in 18 months. I said why? she said cuz buicks goin out of business...... I HOPE shes wrong.
but, it was pretty forseeable, seeing as how 99.9% of buicks, are just VERY bland, dull, 4 door geriatric nightmares. They just do not stand up to the rest of the very colourful, peppy, sporty GM lineup. I sure hope theres some sort of saving grace to come in and save buick.

The local Buick dealer here has already closed. It really makes you wonder what the hell the management at Buick has been doing these last few years. Talk about boring cars.

I can't confirm that they're closing, but it seems kind of odd that the dealer here has unexpectedly closed down. They have been here for decades.

what about that lucerne (or lacrosse) with the norstar motor? thats not too dull..........

buick dealership here is still open, of course they sell volvo and audi also, i guess GM is still cutting the fat, they axe'd oldsmobile i guess buick is next in line, pontiac probably next

I say we start a campaign to keep Buick and ax pontiac, I would HATE to see Buick go....:(

if this is true. would the value of the gs & the gn buick icons.escalate to the stratosphere. ala the mighty hemi cars because i sure hope so.

The good and the bad - If Buick shuts down, the price of our cars will skyrocket= good for sellers wanting to get out of them! / Bad for people wanting to buy one to get into them... Kind of a double edge sword...

I sure hope they pull something out of their butt, and save themselves. Or maybe even someone else coming in an taking them over... or SOMEthing. I dont know, but i dont want buick to go under. First off cuz theyre my favorite maker, and secondly, cuz our replacement parts prices will triple immediately..... :frown:

Is there anyone around that invests a lot? Or anyone that is vested in buick? Maybe they could shoot us a price of a buick stock, versus say, chevrolet or audi. If its about half, then that may be a clue to their direction.. maybe.

I work for General Motors in Lansing - Delta Township. We build the GMC ACADIA - SATURN OUTLOOK - and about late summer next year we will be building the BUICK ENCLAVE. We have built a few test vehicles of the buick but nothing that will go on sale until next year. I don't think buick is going anywhere. General Motors wants to consolidate dealerships and put certain nameplates on the same lot. (like maybe buicks & cadillacs on the same dealership lot for example) not saying that is how they are going to do it, just an example.

I don't see how a dealer closing a Buick store translates into the entire division being axed. There's been no substantiated statements that I've seen or heard that indicates Buick going away anytime soon.

I think GM is just taking things one step at a time. They killed Olds, reinvented Cadillac, have made plans for Pontiac to revert to RWD, sporty-type cars and Buick's time will come.

Let's hope Buick's future lies in it's great past. Powerful, personal luxury machines the likes of Riveria, Wildcat, Century, Gran Sport, T-Type, etc. Let's see sweep spears, waterfall grills, port holes, dual exhaust & stunning styling.

The whole Buick target demographic confounds me. Right now it's comprised primarily of retirees and Buick feels like they need to attract a younger customer base. Duh! They seem to feel like the two demographic groups would be at odds with each other but with the right product, they could sell the same nameplate to a 35-40 year old that a 65-70 year old would be interested in.

Their offerings in the '60s fit this bill: Electra for Grandpa, Wildcat or Riviera for Dad and a Skylark Gran Sport for Jr; all from the same Buick showroom. The 80's were the same way with the Skylark replaced with the beloved Turbo Regal. Why can't they do it again?

My wife made up her mind that she had to have a minivan. We looked at the Buick Terraza and the Chevy Uplander, both 2006 models. The Buick had a sticker of 34,xxx and the Chevy had a sticker of 29,xxx. Chevy offered the red tag sale price of 23,932. We talked them down to 23,032 and got the 3.9% financing. Buick no red tag, no rebates, zip, zilch, nada.

They are both based off of the same platform, same drivetrain so forth. They look very similar. The Buick did have nicer accoutrements inside and better wheels thats for sure. I just couldn't see giving $11,000 more for the Buick. We ended up getting the Chevy. Not sure what the Buick division is doing, but it's clearly not the right thing. Situations like this are why Buick sales are in the toilet.

Oh, and one other word regarding the closing of Buick stores. GM actually has a strategy in place to consolidate Buick, Pontiac and GMC into three-brand dealerships. There were two standalone Buick dealers here in Memphis that closed in the last year and low-and-behold, two Pontiac-GMC dealers added Buick to their lineups.
