Hey guys, my intake on my Gn makes an ungodly amount of noise. Just wondered if it was normal. There is a K&N filter clamped to the stock MAF.

Later guys - Evan

hey

mine sounds like a serious vacum under the hood. it sucks like crazy so i wouls say yes its normal.

If you're talking about idle, you might need to reset the IAC. If the throttle blade is shut too far, the IAC opens more to compensate and it makes a lot of noise.

I think the noise is normal for the hotair cars because the TB is right there. When I relocated my TB the only noise I got was the whistle of the turbo. The idle noise almost completely went away.

Noise at idle

My 85 GN generates excessive noise at idle speeds but more so when the engine is cold. After it warms up the noise level drops off significantly.

Because the IAC closes down a lot when it gets warm.

Guys, check your IAC. Mine was totally jacked and that was the problemo!

It's not a problem, the stock airbox was also an intake noise muffler like on all cars. The IC cars don't have this problem because there's an intercooler, plumbing, and turbo to suppress the noise before it gets to the airfilter.

Before I moved my TB, I got rid of the majority of the noise by opening the throttle blade with the screw until the computer couldn't compensate anymore and then backed it off a little. That way the IAC is barely letting any air past and it's much quieter.
