Soon I'm going to be installing an innovative dual ball bearing 70 Q trim with a precision .85 on our silver T. With the dbb, a 3.5" DP, and speed density (4" inlet, 2.5") outlet with stock headers on ported big valve iron heads and a 215/220 roller, I'm wondering If I might get away with a converter that currently stalls at 3100 at 0 boost. Its a 9/11 style converter. Does anybody else run this converter or something close with something that low? Just wanting to get some ideas. I guess I won't really know until I get it on and take it out, but I'm excited and wanted to see what others were getting away with. Im not looking to set the world on fire, mid to low 10s at 130+ at 22-23 psi is all Im looking for. How much would sticking a .63 housing on there hurt overall power? Thanks

If you had good fuel and really agressive timing you might tolerate a 3100@zero. It would have to be a really good converter to couple the power up top though. The PTC in your sig would get it done with a different stator. Id want 3200+ at zero. Running 130+ with 22-23psi is not an easy task with iron heads and 8:1. It will take some rpm and a good converter for sure

Thanks Bison, i think a 9.5" NL is in the cars future but it may have to deal with this one for a while. I have a billet 9/11 in my dads 86 that is much too loose for a PT61 that is currentl on there (3600) at 0 psi that I could swap, but unless its locked, the 70mm combo may blow right through it and the single disk won't last for long locked up. The motor is around 8.7.1 if my numbers are correct, so I may have to push 24-25 psi to achieve 130 but Ill see what it does for now. The current converter is around 11-12.5% unlocked but comparing the current setup to the new is like apples to oranges.

If the tune is aggressive and the converter slip is low its possible to go 130 at 22-23psi. The 3600 will work but will take a beating when locking it.

I think for now Im gonna see how it does with the current setup, maybe ill get lucky and the converter spools it well and holds together (another concern lol) There is quite a bit of work to do before the 70 is on there and ready for 20+ psi. Thanks for the advice Bison, eventually it will probably get a PTC N/L or a local circle D multidisc lockup (a few locals are running pretty fast with them and they are holding up much better than the Vigs under WOT LU), I'll call the lag "traction control" if its too bad.
