I just installed mine on sunday and was wondering if anyone had problems with the pipe banging against the firewall. Awfly anoying to say the least . I was thinking the problem could be that I need to replace the body bushings because that would give me more clearance. Also noticed my BLM went way up after installation, although I should note that I installed a 3" single shot at the same time. They seem to hover around 140'sh mark.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Pete

When installing mine I needed to cut the bottom corner off of my AC heat shield and then theres a lip that sticks out where the floor and the firewall connect, That might be where you pipe is hitting. I Adjusted that with the sledge  . no problems now. Couldn't tell you about the BLMs though.

Mine fit fine. I fhad already modified my firewall though for my previous downpipe. I folded back the seam, removed the heatshield, and put some small dents near the floorpan. In fact, the 3"LT pipe fit better than my KB 2.5" pipe.

did you buy it new?
and were ?
i need a 3" down pipe for my stuff and mease told me he quit makin them

I have several problems with my Lee Thompson downpipe contacting things like the heat shield, the control arm, AC bracket. But all was fixed with I changed out the motor mounts. The passenger side was pretty squashed and caused a lot of issues. I bought the poly motor mounts which also allow some positioning adjustments for the engine.

lets us know where you got that one

maybe a pic ?

my engine is ready to get dropped back in

Lee Doesn't make the three inch down pipes anymore. Sorry. There may be one or two out there,( ) but you have to run an external waste gate if you go with this. I actually took mine to a local fabricator (with Lee's permission) and now have a stainless three inch downpipe actually fitted for my car. Would suggest this route but the fabricator really needs to see you set up so we know for sure it won't hit and clears everything. I'm in the process of getting it heat coated to protect it even more.

We actually added a spacer between the turbo and down pipe so there was more clearance, but I have one of the hybrid turbos from Limited. We also used the sledge to dent the pipe slightly so it didn't hit, to answer your question.

THAT must have been hard to do ..... OUCH!

Lee's pipes were all mild steel so no not really. The stainless I just had welded up fits perfectly and will be able to disassemble in a flash. It also no longer needs the additional spacer to keep from hitting everywhere. Now don't get me wrong it was a great set up. It's just that every one of these cars are a bit different, different turbos, headers, etc. So we all run into our own issues. So using the sledge on the mild steel down pipe helped put enough of a dent in it to clear and keep the knock sensor happy. My new industrial food strength stainless should be around for a very long time I would hope. The mild steel developed a major leak (rust is a bad bad thing) and was giving way towards the bottom. But I would buy one again (oh wait I already did, LOL)

Jamie,
I was implying ......... making the dent it easy, deciding to do it is not ......... taking a perfectly good DP (really a work of art) and deliberately putting a dent in it must have been emotionally tasking ........... I would have to think about it a few weeks before I swung the sledge. OUCH!
