Here's the scenario, my buddy has a 94 Impala SS and he is getting a bigger MAF. Should I buy his for $70 and bolt in the ol T-Type? Is there that much to be gained by that and does it just plug in or do I have to do a bunch of wiring tricks and stuff?

It is not as simple as that.

You will have to get the Translator or the Translator + from Jack Cotton. It's plug and play with the Translator and a little more involved with the Translator Plus. It comes with good directions or you could have Jack explained it to you. Its worth every penny and will be one of the best upgrade to the car you will ever do. Make it even better if you opt for an NEW extender chip from Ramchargers(Mike Litch).

I paid $45 shipped for mine, they are for sale here sometimes and then on the Camero boards since they upgrade to the 3.5". You will need the translator ($149) or Trans plus ($259) to make the LT1 MAF work with our ecm. Then later if you want to get and Extender chip ($119) it will allow the ecm to read the additional g/sec of air flow the LT1 MAF is capable of sensing. I think the prices are close, but try www.ramchargers.com for more info on the products. And yes, the car will run much smoother and idle nice with this product. The stock MAFs have a tendancy to go bad and cause trouble, and I have not heard any good things about the remanufactured ones. Bring your Impalla SS buddy to the track when you go to Charleston :D . My friend has a '95 and we lined up last time out at the eighth ;) .

$70 is a little steep for a used one. Dealer list is around $80 for a brand new one. Offer him $50 max. You still need to buy a translator.

Other than that it's a great mod.

the trans + works very well. talk to bob bailey and get the extender chip burned for your combination too.

if you need one, I have a good used stock MAF.

see parts section.

I'd have to agree, $70 is about twice as much as that MAF is worth used.

It probably won't make your car run any better than it currently does if the factory maf is good.

If the factory maf is not good then the newer maf/xlator combination is a good choice to fix the problem.

I was wondering, would it be a pretty much equal improvement to get the LT1 or LS1 MAF, 3" or 3.5"? What I mean is should I just get whatever I can, or do I want to go with the LS1? What about the translator or translator plus?
