Back in the day the Stock and LT1 3" MAF's were tested with/without screens.
The LT1 screen was worth about 100 CFM (from 500 to 600). The plastic Venturi in the stocker is also a restriction.
If you don't need the MAF (like I don't in my stock appearing LT1 MAF set up), Just cut out the board for no restriction.
I put epoxy in the board grooves to further smooth the flow.
