Okay,

I've searched and can't quite find what I am looking for. My Scanmaster shows an AF reading from 05-07 at idle, but only goes to 155 when I floor it while driving.

I take it this means it is time to get a translater and 3 inch MAF?

Is there anything else I should check? All other readings seem to be in order.

Thanks?

Rob

i see u have alky so i would imagine ur car should max out ur MAF at 255 at WOT. does the car have any drivability issues? underpowered? with the turbo tweak chip, it does not use the MAF for control of the fuel, the fuel maps are already programed into the chip so when at WOT it locks on LV8 255 and reverts to the preprogramed maps, which r adjustable throught the scanmaster aswell! hth

oh the translator is so u can use a larger better flowing MAF, which is normally alot more reliable compared to the stockers. its not needed, i dont have one, but they r nice to have.

It runs good, just every now and then I will get an off idle stumble and what sounds like an intake backfire. This happens very infrequently, but got me looking at the MAF. The power feels good too. My O2s seem to be in the 800 to 820 range, so I guess the chip is adding fuel as you mentioned.

Any ideas why my scanmaster is only reading 155 on AF?

stock MAF? u r positive that it was 155, not 255? i had that problem before on a cheapy replacement, it only went to 140ish. i replaced the MAF, lifetime advance auto warranty;) and the MAF went up to somewhere in 200's, but car had troubles on cold start up and would not stay running! MAF was miscalibrated, back to advance i go and tried a new style under there warranty, stock style Cardone MAF, and it hits 255, car runs great!

now u see the reliability issue im sure!

Yea, unfortuneately ;) , I had to get on it several times to verify it was only reading 155. It read 155 on a few passes and 148ish on a few others. I never saw higher than 155 though. It is the MAF that was on the car when I got it a few years ago, so I am not sure if it is a replacement or factory original (car has 50K on it).

well if u know someone that has a known good unit u could swap it out and see what happens. it definitely sounds like my old one, it had no driveability problems, just never read correct at WOT!

Thanks Johnny T. I think I now need to figure out if I want to buy a tranlator and Impala SS MAF or try a remanufactured unit.

You likely already have a remanufactured unit. The stock OEM units either worked well and read properly or they died, not too much in between.

Thanks Dave. I notice by your sig your retired Navy. I'm an active duty USAF E-9.
