Main seal

I am new to the GN, I have been looking at a 87 gn for $17000. It has a rear main seal leak. Is this common on the GN?

More than common it's practically a guarantee.

If you race it, and it doesn't leak, it has no oil in it. When you start going fast, the rear main isn't the only leak.
