When trying to gradualy stop, my brakes work fine. When trying to do an emergency stop the brake pedal is really hard to press down, but after a few seconds, it finaly works. During this time that the brake pedal is hard to press I have no brakes. About 5 months ago I replaced the motor and pressure sensor. The Brake light comes on everytime I use the brakes, which problay means I have air in the lines. Any ideas on why the pedal won't press down, it acts as if there is something holding the brake pedal from going down.

Thanks
Chris

Had the same issue as yours. When you suddenly push on the brakes abruptly the pedal gets hard to press. But when you ease into the brakes it will stop normally. I replaced my accumulator ball which fixed the problem.

I have exactly the same problem with the vacume brake setup! I have used 2 different brake boosters and master cylinders but can't find the problem. I'm wondering if the rod from pedal to master cylinder needs to be longer? I am using the correct pedal and hole location but I still have this problem.

Bob..........Did you change your brake pedal when you swapped to vacuum brakes? What about the check valve? Did you replace that? The turbo engine should have plenty of vacuum to operate the booster. I know mine works like a champ after 2+ years.

Same hear. Before you change it, be sure to get all of the pressure off of the system by pressing the brake pedal ten times with the key off.

What vacuum does your engine show at idle? Should be 17-19.

I changed the brake pedal and have used brand new check valves. I have re-bled the brakes and adjusted the rear brake shoes countless times. My vacume reads 16 according to my autometer gauge. It has always read that since new. I can't figure it out.

did it work?

Did the Ball fix your problem?
I ask because I had another problem (weak brakes, i.e. - to the floor easily with little or no stop) so I replaced the ball. Now I have the exact problem you described- gradual stop works fine, regular pressure on pedal causes it to get very hard and then I have almost no brakes. Light is going on and off at will.
Any info appreciated, I have spent the last 2 weeks prepping motor for track this wknd and am now afraid I might not be able to run as I wont be taking a chace with half ass brakes. Thanks
Gary
