I just had an amp installed for my dash and door speakers. I made the mistake of letting the guys at the audio shop run the speaker wire to my doors and now I have a check engine light on. My Scanmaster says it is MAL code 43 ESC - Electronic Spark Control. I know he had to move the ECM out of the way in order to run the speaker wire to the passenger door, so I would guess it has something to do with the wiring there.

I have access to a known good ECM and when I installed it I got the same code. I am hoping it is something simple like a loose terminal in the ECM connectors or a ground wire pulled loose somewhere but I don't really know where to start checking it.

If anyone has any experience with this or could offer any suggestions on where to start checking, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Bill

First, I would reset the ECM.

He may have knocked the ESC module in the engine bay, knocked the wiring loose, etc.
It's along the top of the passenger's side fender, near some relays, under a drip cover. Easy to check..

It wouldn't hurt to check the ECM wiring and make sure they didn't nick anything.

Here's a pic of one - I stole it from NOS4GN.. :)

Well, you were right on the money. I hadn't checked the sensor in the engine bay. I'm not real sure what he needed to do under the hood near the sensor. I had already run 1/0 power wire and mounted a fuse block. When I first got the car home it had two MAL codes, 43 which is the ESC and 51 which is the PROM. I pulled the ECM and found that he had unseated the Powerlogger. When I reseated it the Mal 51 went away but the 43 stayed. I guessed that during the install something else may have happened to the wiring at the ECM.

It turns out the ESC module was just unplugged in the engine bay. I found it exactly where you described.

Thank you very much! Just another example of why I love this site!

Sweet!

I just rebuilt the relay/ESC/MAP assy, kinda had to know where the ESC module was. :P
