When my car went to the shop in early June I had a TE-60 turbo on it. The rebuild of my engine took until a few weeks ago to complete. When putting the engine back in the car the catalytic convertor was hanging down instead of lining up with the single shot exhaust. I changed turbos to a TE-63-1 during the rebuild. The guys who put the engine back in said the turbo didn't seem to be for a turbo Regal. The shop that put the single shot on said they had a rough time getting it on and lining it up to fit. I don't see how the different turbo could cause such a misalignment in my exhaust. They are scared to bend the cat up and tighten it to the exhaust for fear of breaking the turbo exhaust housing. now i am basically running open exhaust due to the inch or so gap between the cat and exhaust. They said my only option seems to be to have a muffler shop cut the cat off the downpipe and add a piece of 3" pipe to fill in the gap and line it back up. Any thoughts?

Sounds like maybe the clock position of your turbo is off a little. The exhaust housing needs to have the angle changed a little. Loosen the bolts on the middle of the turbo that hold the back of the exhaust housing, and rotate it until the unit lines up. That should be all.

I thought of that but the exhaust housing bolts directly to the pass. side header and therefore can't be re-clocked. I was wondering if the guy had warped the pass. side header when he welded up the cracks.

Oh yeah. Silly me.
Sorry, but that was the only thing I could think of. I'll think some more, as long as the pain doesn't get to be too much.
