Ok called around ,$550 to have the car media Blasted, they tape eeverything off.
My question is ,,they said that the Zinc phosphate is left intack, how do they do that or are they just blowing smoke up my but.
Also the paint place said that the car will definately need bondo/filler after blasting ,is this true ,ot can the car just be primed and painted if there are no dents or dings...
thanks Dennis

If there is any kind of rust, you need to treat it bfore any kind of paint. Im going to go this to my 86 GN but I dont trust them to tape it themselves. Im removing all of the trim that I can within reason. The last thing I need is them blasting the paint off my black out trim. I would also etch the metal with acid before priming it too. I had my 65 skylark media blasted and I was really impressed by it.

Do you have a contact/phone number for the media blasting?

Thanks.

Depending on the Media used, there should be no reasion for any kind of filler needed. Enless there has been previous damage. It will need a skim coat of filler over any previous plastic work. I prefer Plastic Media. It will do the best for paint removal and will make any rust problem show up.

Really not that big a job to strip it yourself. Check out...

The buffer, pad, and hook loop sanding discs they are using is about 200 bucks from the site. A days work and you can strip it yourself, no compressor needed. This is how I'm going to strip mine.

;)
$200 for parts,material,backache,electric bill,my time wasted for 10hrs,I think $550 is way better....

Well actually you could probably ebay the tool and get 100bucks back so..... ;) but I do agree.... media blasting rules and 550 is a damn good deal. Your dissassembling the car and taking it to him right? Around here they charge about 750. What paint are you going with?

Was thinking of getting the 84 Roller up and out of the garage,,was hoping to go with SAGE Green:cool: but some would think I am not playing with a full deck of cards, since the interior is blue:rolleyes:

So maybe White since I miss mt White car....

yeah it was cheaper because I took it all apart and taped up the glass myself, all they had to do was blast it, no prep work. I delivered it and picked it up on a trailer.

Thinking about media blasting mine. In the Dallas area, a guy said he would do mine for $600. But I would need to mask it. Do you use card board and duct tape. I'm sure it's best to get all trim and opera windows out? Any other advice if I go this way. I would have to haul it about 2 1/2 hours. When I get it back, how long to get primer on it?

When I had my mechine up and running. I had some hoods and a few other things laying around just to show customers. No rust on them for over 4 years except where someone touched them or where something spilled on them. In other words as long as moisture dosen't get on them you will be fine.

I used a good heavy duct tape and double taped the trim areas. Card board over the radator if it was left in and a special type of thick plasic over glass.

If you take out the glass you will have it all inside you passenger compartment. The plastic will no harm any glass or chrome. I would only cover things as an extra measure. The biggest draw back from useing plastic media is it gets everywhere.
