Any you guys here over 45 find it hard to focus on learning new things at work, home or just in general?

My work is giving us classes & tests before allowing us to touch the new database systems once they get unleashed.
If we don't pass the test then no access is allowed.

I am finding it hard to learn things at age 50.
Anyone else in the same boat trying to learn new things?

I'm doing ok for being over the hill as far as to the learning new things go, i still have the same amount of difficulty as i always had. :D

I have noticed a loss in vision though making it harder to focus and concentrate.

You didn't hear this from me, but:"Do not pass Go, Do not collect $200, report directly to "Downsizing 101"". Not trying to rattle your cage or anything, but I would keep a very close eye on this thing. Sounds almost like something referred to these days as "Performance Based Layoffs".

However, to answer your question, a man at age 50 or so is generally considered to be in his prime in most categories, physically, sexually, and I also thought mentally.
I'm 65 & a few months, wait till you try this then.

I would almost say that your company is getting ready for a cut-back, and passing / not passing this test could e the determining factor.

I'm only speculating here, so don't shoot the messenger.

Any other signs that might imply that your company is getting ready to cut back?

53 here and don't remember driving to work most of the time! Always thought a guys sexual peak was before he actually got to use it on someone.:D :D

Sometimes I feel like I know what I want to learn or say but I just can't focus. Years of sleep depravation has caught up I think, that and 4 years as a teen spent stoned. I tried that ginko but it gave me a stomace ache so I stopped using it.

Hey I am 41 and being in the trades for 23 years didnt help  what day is it?

As an old guy and a teacher for 40 years, I can tell you that learning new things has everything to do with your willingness or enthusiasm towards learning them. All of us have difficulty learning things that we have no interest in and as we age this becomes increasingly true.

I'm now very careful about trying to learn something new. I have a theory that my brain is full and to put something new in means to push something old out and I don't have any control over what goes out. This could be why my memory is failing.
Now what was the subject again????

There's been times when I've had to lay my head down on the bench for 5 minutes because I couldn't hold my eyes open any longer.

lol you guys crack me up, on a serious side though I was feeling tired a lot and fuzzy some to. Try to get more sleep and start on a mens vitamin everyday. It helped me feel a lot better after about a week of taking them. I am 40 Daniel

44 here and I suffer from CRS all of the time. It pisses me off on a regular basis. I run a service department and alot of things happen all at once. I use to multi task much better, now if I glance at an email while having a conversation I lose track of anything being said to me. Sucks!! I remember when I could read a magazine like right in front of my face not held 24" away from me:mad:

But I have something alot of 20 somethings don't have...a mint low mileage GN:wink: I also leave most of them sitting on the line at the race track as well, haven't lost my reaction times.
